Things That Gladden The Heart

Just unwrapped, inspected and had a nibble of this year's Christmas cake that I made 2 years ago. It's been triple wrapped in greaseproof and foil and stored in an airtight container in the garage.
After inhaling deeply I contemplated posting this on "What are you drinking tonight?"
Boy did I "feed" it!
Nice and moist and flavoursome though 👌
Grandkids will have to produce ID if they want a slice!

But what about marzipan and icing? Need both layers to be nice and thick.
 
Don’t mind admitting it but there have been days this last couple of weeks that I could throttle young Bradley Tash. But today was the most proud I have been with him. And I told him So.

Today was the Sherwood Seals Christmas do. It is the charity swimming club where Bradley has Started helping out. Today I met the boy who Bradley is helping, Spencer. He is 9 yr old. He has autism and adhd. He loves ladies and everyone is beautiful and gorgeous. He is a lovely lad. Bradley got a £10 voucher for helping the club. He also met Charlotte Henshaw the gold Medal Olympic Paralympian. What an inspiration she is. She started out swimming with the Sherwood seals.
Suffice to say Mr and Missis T got a little emotional.

Going back 20 years I made a Xmas cake around August time. It was a thing of beauty. A pal Wanted a piece. Not until Xmas I said.
Anyway I opened it a week before Xmas to cover with marzipan and icing and I was devastated. When I wrapped the cake in grease proof paper and put it in the Roses Tin. It was still slightly warm. It sweated in the tin and there was an inch of fungus round the cake when I took it outta the paper. ☹️
Don’t think Ave made another since.

Aww!
My DiL brought her cake last year so mine stayed in hibernation. Many years back my cake was also unused for even longer - kept perfectly.
Had yours been "fed"?
Maybe you wrapped it still warm?

It was deffo warm. I wasn’t that bothered about feeding it a great deal apart from its initial mix, otherwise the kids wouldn’t have touched it. Oddly enough at the time I didn’t really like Rich fruit cakes. But don’t ask me why, I do like them now. I do like. Good Yorkshire brack.
 
Manning my church's stand in the town Christmas Fair today...and giving away Christmas tree decorations that have been hand-knitted and crocheted by church members. Delighted faces of young children as they chose their Christmas tree bauble.

The surprise of many, if not most, adults when told that we were truly giving them away - asking for nothing not even a donation. The usual question being "Free? Really? Why?" and my answer. "Because it's Christmas...they were made with love and are being given away with love at Christmas"

Sad that there is so much suspicion in so many when being offered something simple but lovely for free, but that's modern life I suppose - nothing comes for free. Except yes - there are things that can be given with no wish or demand for any reward or return.

BTW - 3rd week of Advent and reflections and action are on 'Love' - following on from 'Hope' and 'Peace' of first two weeks.

Currently sat watching young Bradley Tash swimming with his pal. His pal has took off his ear muffs for the first time ever. He don’t like noise. His mum and the staff are absolutely gobsmacked. The innocence of youth is lovely to see.
