Things That Gladden The Heart

Been back to me dads today to mend his “ Barrow” aka wheel barrow. A weld had gone on the back so a couple of holes through the frame into the carrying area and it’s sorted. The Barrow it’s self. The scrap men themselves would leave it at the side of the rd. but “ ave had that since 1972”, along with his Bow saw he bought to cut up telegraph poles during the miners strike in 1972 and this Stanley double diamond drill I used to drill the holes. It frightened the bloody life out of me when it kicked up.
He is happy his Barrow is now working again.

After an intense 3 days of pain last week, in the middle of moving, I've now qualified as a bowls Umpire to international level. Lots of umpires ahead of me before I get an international match but I've got my first national game in two weeks.

Nervous? Maybe... looking forward to it though.

Eldest just made breakfast for the girls. First time she's done it by herself for me. Meant I could get on with my jobs and they took care of themselves

Could get used to this

On what occasions does an umpire get involved in a game? I get 'who is closer', but much else?

Well done,
Oor wee club seem to make up the rules as we go along,
We had situation last year in a club league game where none of about 20 bowlers knew the correct rule. ;)

PS
Momentum in sport is rubbish
Played pretty well in my first bowls game of the season and got hammered.
Played absolute rubbish in the next five and won them all.

My wife has found out she has passed the latest stage of tests to see if she can donate a kidney to our niece. A day of tests - scans, x-rays, kidney function tests about 3 months ago and finally got the green light. Next stage is a chat with the surgeon and then the ethics committee (to make sure she isn't being coerced or paid) and hopefully the transplant operation can take place around the end of September. Been a long process but there is now light at the end of the tunnel.

Great news

One of our PP in the swindle went through the same to donate to his wife - amazing sacrifice form people that do it

If its singles, that's down to the marker. Beyond that the Umpire can be called on but it's only if, even using a box measure, they can decide.

We get the odd arguments about displaced bowls or jacks but rarely anything else.

All our local clubs have at least 3, all of which play in the league teams.

Tracking down and negotiating a not unreasonable price on a very rare record. Not cheap but not as expensive as the recent sales history would suggest. I missed out on a copy back in 1994 because the guy at the record store put one aside for me and then promptly confused someone else for me and gave them the copy that was meant for me.

That's a few proper rare ones I've tracked down this year.

Also blew the seller's mind when I told him that there's no need to use unsightly tape repairs on side split sleeves and the good old pritt-stik works wonders. Also retains value in the sleeve (if original company sleeve) by not having big visible tape repairs.
