Things That Gladden The Heart

Been a good day all round today after this mornings friendly run in. Lunch and early afternoon spent with my oldest, original plan was London together but she asked to meet me at Bluewater in Kent as she wanted to show me something! Nice bit of lunch together in Wagamama where she refused to let dad pay, wandered round the shops where she picked what she wanted which I happily got her along with a couple of other little bits.

Had our obligatory Krispy Kreme donut and walked her back to her car where she showed me her surprise, little sod has bought herself a year old Range Rover Evoque , no finance just hard work and treated herself 😍, I know I’m biased but she’s a great kid (25 years old but still a kid to me) she works hard and I feel very proud to call her my not so little girl. Just got home and smiling at what a good day it’s been, might crack open the rum 🥃

Finding out I am going to be starting a new job in the new year. Company just needs to work out what contracts they will have so they know when I will be starting and can give me a firm date. Similar work to what I am doing now (or should be once the main contract is signed) but better pay and much better prospects for advancement within the new company. Great news just before Christmas.

Today is one of my fav days. Today sees just one job. Collect the turkey. Why is it so much fun? We go out, have a nice brunch, preferably with mulled wine. Maybe bar crawl to wish different friends and owners a Merry Christmas, then get the turkey on the way home.

Happy turkey day everyone.

Just don’t ‘enjoy’ the bar crawl so much that you forget the turkey 🤣

A disaster darling. Already back. Put my order in, and I guess my Spanish doesn’t always hit the spot. Mrs H tucks into a lovely brunch and I get zilch.

Turkey is in the fridge, and we’re off out to our local for… wait for it… probably cringeworthy… a Christmas Karaoke

Go on, what'll your speciality be?

My JVC pods died a slow lingering death a few days ago. They weren’t holding charge for long, and the left pod was intermittent.

As we were passing a local gadget shop I thought I’d pick up a cheap and cheerful pair. They were selling Redmi pods for €15, and as I’d bought a Redmi phone earlier this year… very impressed. 3 hours listening time after a 10 minute charge. 7.5 hours after full charge. Graphic equaliser via their app. Very clear and very powerful.

I don’t do a lot of TV, preferring my iPad whilst Mrs H watches Strictly etc. Pod get a lot of use, and I’ve not seen the charge level below 60% yet

Opening the backdoor this morning to half a dozen Ibex. Bit of terracing then a single track road and these at the fence. Only ever seen them from a couple of hundred yards away. From 20 yards they’re chunky, muscle-bound beasts.

Big daddy was out with his harem today. Fairly sure he can get all the Sky channels with that arial array.

Paid our staff their Xmas bonuses this afternoon.
Got some really nice thank you messages back.

Always a bone of contention with do you pay everyone the same or is it a percentage of their wage or performance related.

We decided this year to pay everyone the same but with those who only joined this year it was pro rata.

We pay a week's pay as the bonus. We have one person working 2 days, another does 4. It didn't seem right that they got the same but it was how to do it fairly. Doing a week's pay was both logical and came across as fair so we've stuck with that.

It is tricky how to do it and not cause contention, ironic when it is meant to be a nice treat and isn't compulsory 🙄

That is something we have done in the past but it caused a bit of tension.
Especially as one of our part time people works really hard and often does extra hours without asking for anything extra.
It’s like the Xmas party a right minefield.
You can’t do right for doing wrong sometimes
