The Grinder Of Pars (Semi Crocked)
My heart isn't getting particularly gladdened....
No, sorry you have got me completely wrong, Iām in no way comparing a petty criminal to a murderer. You could say that for petty crimes as well. Kill them and they won't do it again. It is not a sensible point of view.
When a murderer is considered a danger to the public he/she is never released.
You have a common vengeance fantasy.
Brutal treatment or physical and mental torture, are things of the past. No prison officers should ever be required to mete out such treatment.
There is a line that must not be crossed when imprisoning people in the UK.
Your line is imaginary and will never be legislated for.
Whilst Iām not suggesting it is your view, there does nevertheless seem to be a widely held belief that prisons are some sort of holiday camp.
I spent some time managing a team of police officers who investigated crime which happened in prison establishments, and when I was setting that team up I had several meetings with the governors of the five prisons within our force area. I had guided tours of all of them, and was a regular visitor.
I can tell you without hesitation that they are hell holes, the kind of places where the vast majority of us would struggle to survive a week.
I disagree but Iām not going to comment any further. You have a common vengeance fantasy.

Read my words again, "When a murderer is considered a danger to the public he/she is never released."Yet in reality we have seen people released and committing serious crimes again
And you canāt compare someone doing petty crimes with the sort of people bent discussed here

I am clearly talking about whole-life terms - as you say, "the sort of people being discussed here."
Those released are those who have served their term or released "on licence" to serve the rest of their term, with conditions, outside prison.
We do not give whole life terms for all murders. And yes, there are cases of repeated murder. This does not justify locking up all murderers for the rest of their like.
Murderers and those committing multiple murders and monitored very carefully for a long time. The possibility of release is a long and thorough process. If you think it could be improved, put your opinions in writing to Secretary of State for Justice. Remember to give all details of your research into the subject and your professional experience. (Please take no personal offence to my facetiousness - I am merely using your post to spout my opinions)
It is an interesting subject for "lay" discussion.
But a return to medieval practices, as some continue to suggest, is not something I can read about or listen to without feeling a need to respond.
It is something that we might "feel" is justified, but it only needs a little more serious thought to dismiss it as not practical or justifiable for a civilised society.
Yes please delete/move this.I am not a moderator but Just a thought, any chance of putting this debate to bed or moving it elsewhere and returning this thread to the one guaranteed modicum of positivity on the forum.
Gotta love how daughterās minds work. Not sure if this should be here or random irritations.
My eldest daughter just messaged me to say she is going to book a spa day thing for her Mum for her birthday.
I thought thatās nice, while we are there I might get myself a massage.
She then said can I have the Grandson for the day as she is going as well.
