Thicker putter grip - has it helped you?

I'd like to improve my putting and having tried different different techniques (to varying degrees of success, along with a lot of extra practice) since the start of the season I'm now considering a different thickness of putter grip. I've looked at the super stroke fatso & flatso grips and wondered if anyone's changed to them, which one they chose, why they changed and how much success they've had with a thicker/fatter grip.

Would appreciate feedback specifically from those who have changed to a thicker putter grip.

Not only have I changed to a thicker putter grip, I have also changed to a shorter grip. The grip/shaft that originally came on my putter was proving too long for me and I was tending to grip down on the shaft to gain better feel and distance control with my putting.

After a short while I went to a private fitting studio and tried various SuperStroke grips on different putter lengths. This helped me find the right one for my grip, and I now feel a lot more confident standing over putts. Having only really used the grip for about 5 rounds I would say the feel has most certainly improved in my putting. Hopefully I will start to get there with the distance control as well over time, but I am certainly enjoying the new grip over the previous one that was fitted.

I went for a SuperStroke Mid Slim 2.0 just for reference ;)

I moved to a fat grip but have since gone back to a thin one. I found distance control too difficult with the fat grip, it takes all feel out of the equation.

If i were able to spend a lot of time practice my putting then the fat grip would probably be better. I wouldn't say it's a magic solution though.

Nah not my cuppa, I take it your referring to the 'Superstroke' grips, personally I think they're a bit 'Marmite' you either love em or despise em, personally I despise em !...

I had a 2thumb grip fitted sideways on my old putter to help stop my wrists breaking as I was very "wristy". I had it fitted sideways because I didn't want to have to change my grip.

My putting has improved loads but I've since changed back to a slimmer grip now I've got a much better stroke. Still open to improvement but my wrists don't break anymore.

Fitted a winn one 2 weeks ago. Not a full on fatty, more a mid sized. Completely changed my game. Hole so much more from inside 8 ft.

Distance control onnlonger putts took a little getting used to.

Give it a go, dont like it, rip it off.

Very similar failings in my putting, I feel that I'm missing due to hand/wrists being too active, thus the reason for asking the original question. Thanks for all the feedback.

My only other advice is to use a V easy on the practice green, that will definitely help. My problem is I don't practice enough.

I changed to an odyssey jumbo grip about a year ago. Not as big as the superstroke fat grips but big enough to feel comfortable with my grip. I can't see myself ever going back to a thin grip.

A putter I bought a couple of years back came with the really fat grip - almost cricket bat thick ...
Tried it for a while but it wasn't right.
Next one I got had a Superstroke Mid Slim 2.0 on it..
To say it just feels completely right is the understatement of the year..

There's several thicknesses available - go somewhere that has a large range of putters.
Don't worry about which putter it is, just focus on the grip and which ones feel good.

Fragger has a Fatso 5 on his Ping and it's transformed his putting.

Yeah I put a Winn one on my 2nd putter to try it out for a couple months & got the main putter done pretty quickly too with same grip

As posted earlier its the mid-size rather than full-fat and was quite surprised how much more stable it is

I recently bought a putter with a 3.0 on it and I've only had one 3putt in 6 rounds so seems to be working for me

I got my hands on the Jason Day limited red spider but I must admit, initially I planned to regrip the super stroke 2.0 that comes fitted.

I took it it as it was down our practice putting green, coming from a 30 year old bladed putter that's been recently regripped with an odessey standard grip, the new putter was different on so many levels it was unreal.

2-3 weeks down the line now and it's not being regripped, I allowed myself time to learn the new putter and at the same time the fat grip, this weekends putting average was 1.6! down from an average of 2.1 around 4 weeks ago. I'm holing the odd long one and much more confident with the 3-5 footers. With the old putter I'd notice fairly often on the backswing of the putting stroke it'd be a bit shaky sometimes - this happens very rarely now.

All i can say is give it a bit of time and don't expect instant results. No piece of equipment is a guaranteed shot reducer.

Simple if boring (predictable) answer but rather than tweaking what you've got have you considered a lesson and seeing if the issue is you, the set up and stroke? Get something that is consistent first and then see if you need/want to change.

I went to a SuperStroke Mid Slim 2.0 a couple of months ago. Its certainly helped me be a lot less 'wristy' when putting. Im holing a lot more putts and my misses are a lot more consistent. Before I was quite erratic!

They do take some getting used to, and they certainly arent for everybody. Definitely worth a try though.

Not convinced yet, have a countercore 2.0 and underestimated how different the stroke would feel. Have taken the weight out and it seems better but honestly played 27 holes with it this way and maybe 20 minutes on the putting green so its just too early to tell
