In last weeks stableford, Homer and I were in the same group. Homer only scored 29 points but he was remarkable upbeat about the whole thing. I have to admit, he was hitting it quite well, not perfect but nothing too wild and a lot more solid then recent times (GM events excluded). The Homer I've come to know would have been beating himself up about the score but this Homer seemed to be able to filter the good from the bad and focus on the good.
Today we turned up for our 1st round winter league match against a couple we know quite well playing off 6 & 12. Once again, this Homer was striking the ball fairly solidly following Thursday's lesson and with me struggling to get to grips with the semi-frozen greens (apparently they are experimenting letting us play on them frozen) we found ourselves 2 down after 4 holes when we should have been level.
On the 5th tee a strange thing happened. I was being critical of myself for letting the last two holes slip away but this new positive Homer told me not to worry about it, we'll get it back and a par here would probably win the hole. A little perplexed I put the last two holes behind me and we went on to win the match 3&2 with both of us winning our fair share of holes and "new" Homer making lots of positive noises - in fact I don't think I heard a negative comment all day for the 2nd week in a row.
All this got me thinking, who is this new Homer and what has he done with the original?
