Theoretical question

Clive,

Can I take a guess?

1. Wellshurst

2. Mid-Sussex

3. Copthorne

I would say course 1, not the best but from what you've said on here before, with money being tight, the least expensive.

Have you tried Hassocks yet? Just down the road from Mid-Sussex. 5700yds par 70 - not long but you have to be accurate. At £680, good value and I think there are deals on for new members.

It takes me 40 minutes but not a problem to me as I don't play evenings, apart from every other Tuesday night roll up during summer months.

Golfmmad. :)

Spot on :D

I've looked at the web site for Hassocks, but not got round to playing it yet.

What's the Silver Membership discount on green fees?

Do they do monthly direct debit payments ?

I'll have to try and find a customer in Hassocks to go and visit. ;)

Cheers

Clive

Yes you can pay by direct debit. I'll find out details re. silver membership, my mate is silver this year due to new job with shift patterns.

I'll PM you Clive when I have a comp free weekend to invite you down for a round.

travel is a pain and if these are your 3 options, i would go for wellshurst, if only for a year or 2.
i think you should look at the eastbourne courses, seaford courses and lewes and east brighton. if you are only 5mins from wellshurst, dale hill is only 30 mins away.
travel times around here are bloody slow during the day.
of all the courses mentioned [ i do not know copthorn ] lewes is a though track, usually windy, but i am sure you have more choice than traveling 45 mins, unless it is very close to work.
i hope you enjoy your choice
regards shagster :)

I don't know Dale Hill, but the problem with those other tracks atm is that being on the downs they are a tad hilly. I'm so unfit I get breathless by the 10th or 11th and end up gasping.

When I get fitter, then they'll be more achievable.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm never going to be a good golfer, so I have to look for the most enjoyment I can get out of a game. So a nice walk, and good scenery are high on my list of must haves, whereas in the old days I was looking for the toughest course I could afford.

:)

that would rule lewes out, very hilly. i guess you live close to hailsham by your time scale. eastbourne downs has only 2 up hill holes [ 8 & 9 ] the rest is gentle. if you fancy trying it, give me a shout.
good course but greens are suffering a bit at the moment, we need some rain. also doing a good deal for new members [ £600 ] first year. you could also try smiffys place, but not cheap, think its over a £1000 now.
hope you enjoy where you end up.
if you stay nomadic, there are some good deals, but if like me you play a lot, then you have to join a club. shagster. :D

Popped over there today, and squeezed in 18. A nice course, definitely. But the lack of length does worry me a tad.

I hit 87 off the yellows, going in the water on the 2nd and 9th, both through using too much club, and not knowing the hazard was there. Went OOB on the 13th - a huge pull hook off the tee. And :o I three putted FOUR times ( 9th, 10th, 12th, and 16th ). In my defence, the 9th and 10th were from the fringe, and both onto different levels. The 12th was a genuine duffed bad putt and the 16th was slightly overhit, and a bad return putt.

If I could get in the habit of not making too many of those kinds of mistakes, then it should be easy enough to play to 18ish round there.

Which would be nice. Definitely going to play it again.

I forgot to ask, do they do any regular mid week stuff ?

Thanks for the offer of a weekend game, but atm I'm in a nonweekendlikelytogetoutandaboutsortofsituation, so I'm a 5 day golfer for the foreseeables. Unless, of course, you can manage a midweeker sometime.... :)

I asked about the Silver. You pay £115 ( I think they said ) and get £2.50 of each round you play. So you have to play 46 round to get your money back, or twice a week over the season. The 5 day is £520, so those same 46 games would cost £11.30 each.

To me it seems that the 5 day Gold is better value than the Silver, but I may be missing something.
