Err, what sort of "science" do you do, exactly?
Degree in environmental biology and work as an analytical chemist. You are right about the effects they are barely marginal as I said. And the mental effects are not due to the drink, but due to the marketing having a pseudo effect, as I said.
If you do gulp down those drinks then you do get the hit and drop, but if you sip them then OK the effects are minimal at best but the taste alone can help you feel refreshed (which is all in the head really).
As you do already know the actual strictly biological benefits of these drinks are pretty much zero (unless your body is under some serious water stress), as I said in my post.
My main point was don't let the marketing of the product fool but also don't let the skills of the journalists who put the program together do the same. Both parties are equally as guilty and the ACTUAL truth is somewhere between the two viewpoints (but far closer to one than the other).
