Low, squirty, straight and from trying to hit it too hard or coming up and losing spine angle...

Do I win :fore:

How would you describe the ball flight and the causes of the 'topped shot'

The shot? Bobbling forward similar to a "bouncing bomb".

Cause? Anything from a long list. Ball too far forward? Reverse pivot? Standing up through impact? All of the aforementioned :mad:

A low shot that rolls along the ground and doesn't travel very far.

1. Losing spine angle at address , plus other factors such as;
2. Too much tension in forearms from trying to 'hit' the ball,
3. Ball too far forward,
4. Swaying in the backswing,
5. No shaft lean at address , especially if leaning back trying to help the ball,
6. Straightening of the legs during the swing.

All of which I have suffered at some point when I first started playing!

no ball flight, never really gets in the air as such, bounces & rolls, direction dependent on club path direction through contact to some degree, cause - struck with the bottom, even sole of a club because the low point of the swing arc is before the club gets to the ball.

The thin;

A shot that is often struck around the equator of the ball, the trajectory of the ball is low and ground hugging , much like a putt only with more force. This type is often the result of hitting the ground behind the ball and as the club comes up it tends to strike the equator of the ball.

Causes;

1. Leaning back at address and the entire swing.
2. No weight shift in the swing or too late or too little.
3. A sway away from target in the swing.

Probably a few more but that is all I can think of right now.

very low ball flight, mostly likely to travel a good ways further than expected. leading edge of the club contacting the ball around the equator or even slightly below.

low point of the swing arc target side of the ball. (usually from very steep approach & golfers move/slide their center past the ball bringing the arms/club down way too steep)

as per usual every action has a reaction, so down to set-up & usually steep pick of club with arms with not much body rotation in the backswing or rather back pick-up of club.
