Decided to swap 5 and 6 irons for equivalent hybrids.

Just cannot get the consistency with the long irons. Currently have a nice 7 wood and a 4 hybrid in the bag, so the 5 and 6 hybrids should compliment them. Highest iron with then be a 7

Good decision?

Agree on the 5 iron but a word of warning on replacing the 6. I had a 27° hybrid in place of 6i for a while and it was fine until there was a breath of wind, and then suddenly the flight was way too balloony and it was rendered completely useless. So nowadays I use a hybrid in the 5 iron position and my longest iron is a 6, and that's the sweet spot for me. Obviously you can try it see if you feel differently - it might have been the specific model of hybrid I used that caused the problem.

7 has been my highest iron for some time. Nobody cares, or if they do would they be people you would want to play a round with?

I don't care if someone uses a 4 iron or a bag full of hybrids and no irons at all. Use what you find works for you best, what makes the game easier. It's hard enough without giving yourself an additional handicap.

Crack on.

Have you ever met anyone who has said anything?
Why would anyone care or even notice what was in another persons bag?

I have on the very odd occasions noticed someone with an unusual club when they are playing a shot and spoke with them about it but certainly not judged them on it.

I played one day with a young lad who had a 1 iron.
I didn’t notice it until he got it out on the tee and when he creamed it further and straighter than all our drives the only question asked was why don’t you hit all your tee shots with that?

Played with a lad in the roll up the other day with a full bag of hybrids instead of irons including PW from Eleven Golf. My interaction on seeing them was “good shot”
Everytime he hit the ball. If it helps you and means you carry on enjoying the game that’s all that matters.
I didn't realise we'd played golf together :P

Just see your signature that’s quite ironic as you’re not that far from me 😂.

The lad I played with had the full bag driver down to PW of Eleven. He absolutely loves them and said they’ve kept him playing golf. I’ve been tempted looking at their wedges in a black finish is very nice and I am currently sat on their website looking at a Sunday carry bag 🤔.

That’s how I see it too: test it out and see what works for *you*!

Right now, my long irons (3-iron, 4-iron) are my “most reliable” clubs, even though they’re actually considered more challenging than the mid-irons and short irons. On the other hand, my 5-iron and my 4-hybrid aren’t working at all right now: 100% topped! 🤬

The only reliable club is my driver: All the balls fly almost as far to the right…! 🤷🏽😁

I haven't met anyone who has said anything but it is a comment that comes up every so often so I guess someone must do somewhere 🤷‍♂️. I suspect for those that do, or do care, it's an ego thing.

Maybe Louis Theraux should go and interview them and we can find out why 😄

Yeah I understand, quick question..was it regular or stiff shaft, dont think that matters, but how much difference is there between stiff and regular in hybrids?

Will be hanging on to the irons anyway so can always go back to the 6.

Quite a bit I'd say. My son uses stiff shaft clubs and I can't hit them for love nor money. He has a lovely mizuno hybrid, it hurts that I can't use it 😢.

I do have a slow, glacial, swing, but I can get away with regular quite comfortably

Tough to answer as flex is very different depending on the brand and shaft used, one company’s Reg can border another’s stiff and depends on the profile of the shaft tip, butt etc.

Weight is a bigger factor for me especially when changing between graphite shafts.

I prefer irons to hybrids and was 6 iron up for a while until at a recent fitting a 5 iron gave me 10 yards on my 6 iron, with all the right stats (land angle important to me). Loft is 26 degrees, so no idea what that is these days.

Then straight into 9 wood, wich adds 15 yards to my 5 iron, 6 wood, 4 wood and driver.

I’ve got the eleven clubs, still got 8-9 irons for chipping around greens, also got p/w in eleven but it goes 20 yards shorter than my other p/w iron.
After using them all last season I think I’m just going to use the 5-6 and 7 in eleven clubs and 8-9 and p/w in my other irons.

Give the 5-6 hybrids a go they are easier to hit than conventional irons especially the eleven clubs as I found they are not as offset as other irons I’ve tried.

Best club in my bag at the moment is a 9 hybrid :D

I had a terrible case of the shanks a few years ago and the only cure was to fill the bag with hybrids. Longest iron is a PW
A 9 hybrid, never heard of such a thing, but if it works - why not?

I am not a huge fan of hybrids myself, have one, a 4. Nowhere as near as consistent as I can hit my 5 iron. A couple of good shots then a vicious hook out of nowhere. 😲

I only ever play regular flex. You might be right in that a stiff doesn't launch as high - couldn't say myself.

That could be a 7 iron in a lot of sets these days.😂

Probably why some people are dropping them out of the bag
