Am at my wits end today.

Got my salary in on Tuesday and nearly had a stroke when the taxman deducted £944 in tax and another £300 in NI.

Apparently I should have paid back some tax I owe for the next 6 months, although I never got a letter to tell me but instead of taking it in instalments the dumb f_____s took it in a oner and have left me a lot less well off than I thought i would be. I asked them if there was anything they could do because they gave my employer the wrong tax code and thy just said NO.

End of !!!!!!!

Can anyone tell me if they know of a way for me to get some of my hard earned back.

You could try becoming a rent boy

Sorry Andy, I know it was a serious question.
Generally you don't mess with those feckers. I can't see them giving any sort of refund as it's not really their style.

Can your boss not sub you from next months salary?

Andy,

I had the same problem when I switched jobs
in 2002, new company had me on the wrong tax
code for 5 years, and I ended up contacting tax man
to let him know and got a demand for £3.5k for doing so.
They wanted paid immeadiatly but I appealed and after 2 years
they eventualy dropped it but not before they had
deducted £1500 in tax one month, nearly died when I went
to the bank. If u appeal they will need to refund the money
they have deducted until your appeal is sorted out.I got the £1500back the following month.
Don't know if u have grounds for an appeal but if you contact them again and ask to pay what you owe through self assessment they may allow you to pay it over a year, worth a shot they can be reasonable sometimes.
Good luck m8 hope you get it sorted.
