Hey folks,

just looking to pic some brains......
I currently have stiff shafts in all my clubs, I was fit for the irons and driver, and during my lessons I have been told that stiff shafts are right for me, poss even x flex.

But....... I have left my clubs at home whilst I am working in Newcastle, and borrowed a set from a friend, My old tm driver was in there with stiff shaft, and he had a set of Titleist dci irons with Regular shafts. Now, I have played twice with these clubs and both times I have found that I have much better rhythm. I am not sure why. I think that maybe it is I am not used to the clubs and am playing within myself and not going at at it too much, or could it be that by not swinging so hard I have found better rhythm. Is it worth looking at getting regular shafts in my Irons?
The other thing could maybe be fitnes, I have let it go over the winter and am carrying a few more pounds than normal, so maybe the reg flex is allowing my to swing comfortably as they are lighter than my irons?

Help....

James, its one of these questions that only you can really decide.
I suggest going to a pro and ask to borrow other sets with reg shafts and see how you get on with them.
Ideally, try the same irons you have but in a reg shaft and go compare

Thanks bob, do you think it could be a mental thing? What I mean is that could I subconciously be swinging too fast because I am using stiff shafts, when I could swing normally with good tempo and stiff shafts? I usually find when I am on song it is because I dont over do it.

The problem with shaft flex is that there are no standards. Reg flex in one shaft could be close to stiff flex in another, reg steel and Reg graphite from the same manufacturer will be different.

When I bought my driver I tried 3 different graphite shafts. The one the pro recommended and said would suit me best I just couldn't hit, same driver with a different shaft of the same flex I was smoking it.

You just have to get out there and try them and find what suits.

I guess, I think it is more of a consistancy thing also, prob just need some more time on the range and in the gym, I have had the Irons for 15 months now, and I am very pleased with them in general, I just thought after playing with my mates clubs how easy it to maintain a consistant tempo, even through 27 holes!
