Are you sure about Weinstein & Polanski? From the same link;

That'll teach me to believe the message that my mate sent me earlier - he's usually pretty reliable with his info but obviously not this time.

Apologies, yes, Polanski did eventually get banned, just the 40 years after he was convicted of statutory rape. No idea on the speed of Weinstein's ban.

There is no real morality in Hollywood. They pretend they are kings of morality, and lecture us on how we should live. However, the only reason Hollywood reacts to this incident is simply due to the highly public nature of it.

I'm guessing there wasn't a huge outroarfor Polanski to be banned (to the same level as Smith) after his conviction.

And, I'm sure many in Hollywood had pretty decent knowledge on what Harvey was up to, but only publicly expressed their outrage once it was all revealed in the wider media.

Where in that article does it say The Academy has taken back he Oscar? In fact, there's a quote from Whoopee Goldberg (a member of The Academy's Board of Governors) that 'predicted Smith would face "big consequences" but said "we're not going to take that Oscar away from him." '
