So my early season tip for great things Tyrrell Hatton ties second in South Africa, but does not get an open qualifying spot due to the guys he tied with have a lower world ranking.

Fair? not fair? un-flexible? discuss..

Thems da rules - which were published beforehand, so no surprises!

If he's as good as he appears to be, he'll get in anyway, though much less hassle for the 2 he tied with.

Well, i did beat him on nearest the pin at Bowood... but you know! ;)

I have to say I think the whole world ranking structure seems to be a farce and I've tried to get to grips with it and gave up..... You need a PHd in Astro Physics to work it out and I'd much rather stick pins in my eyes..... It makes it even more difficult for up and coming good players to get noticed and play in the bigger tournaments. Its needs a total re vamp big style in my humble opinion.

The big argument against that is that the sponsors (yep its all about money) want all the big names playing in the tournament as thats what draws spectators.

You only have to look how the US tour have basically taken away the possibility of getting on tour via tour school now (you can only get a web.com place and then have to play your way on) to see its getting harder to breakthrough

I've worked with one of those and am related to an 'all but'. I don't think you'd want either of them to explain it!

Nothing significantly wrong with the current system imo, though certainly was when it first came in.

There's quite a bit of opportunity for up-and-comers elsewhere, though maybe not so much at this time of year - the African swing being the best current opportunity.

Don't think there's anything wrong with the ranking system as it is, and it's not that difficult to understand just work it out in steps rather than trying to to it all at once. (I don't have a PhD in Astro Physics)
