the national lottery proposed increase

hi guys
We have been playing the lotto every wednesday and saturday since the very start as a six man syndicate. The biggest win we've had is £400 ,plus a few small amounts over the years.
But now we are thinking of stopping it completely or maybe just play the saturday draw , because of the proposed increase.

What would you guys do

If memory serves me, Lottery started in 1992 so 21 years ago. Never had an increase which I dont think can be said for much else.
Its not a necessity to play it and slthough I think 100% increase is high is it really that much of an issue considering 21 years at the same price?

Those that have got into the habit of playing it may well continue, those who play occasionally possibly won't....

I did the same numbers for 5 years and won a grand total of 30 quid - 230 quid down so I stopped.

Shocking story, but one that will be all to familiar with lottery winners

When i worked for the local authorities sports coaching, an 18yr old lad i worked with won a large amount, but it was shared about 6 ways, he ended up with just over a million.

He was into his horse racing and bought 2 thoroughbreds and paid upfront for 2 years of training for them both. He then bought a house for him and his then partner, went on holiday and married there. Came back and within a couple of months had upset the full family as he had spent almost the whole ammount,

This was 4 years ago, both horses turned out to be donkeys and never won a thing between them. His marriage broke down after a couple of years and she got the house. And only his father out of the full family talk to him as they all fell out with him as he didnt give anyone treats.

I play footy with him on a Saturday morning, he's a lovely lad but he tells everyone not to play the lottery as he blames that for so much!

Wasn't aware of the increase, but what reason do they give? Perhaps if they stopped running so many different games and went back to one draw a week instead of the dozen or more draws that you can select from now, more people would buy tickets.

It's a lot simpler to buy one a week, than one for every draw, I reduced the tickets I bought for that very reason.

I'm guessing the logic behind this will be that they need 50% drop in players for the increase to be unsuccessful. I don't play it that often but I will be playing it even less frequently now.

I can't see what costs have increased to require the increase in charges! All they do is pick some balls, I'm still not sure how that machine works!

All expenses are deducted first then charities paid, the remainder is divided into various prize amounts . The prize for 3 numbers increases from £10 to £25 the other amounts are being reduced by half and some by a third.
But we are not sure if this applies to all games, if it does we're OUT

I think more people to switch to the Health Lottery and/or the Post Code Lottery when the increase starts.

I think all these lottery's are like parasites feeding off all of us that are feeling the pinch and hoping for a bit of luck and a windfall. You can't look anywhere without seeing various lottery's, lottery cards, Roulette Tables, Bet Fred, Bet Fair, they just want us to Bet, Bet, Bet.

They are preying on the vulnerable and weak and those wishing for some luck, but the odds are huge. Some people will be frightened to stop in case their numbers came afterwards and as such will push themselves into more financial debt.

I would also like to see some common sense and lets have multiple £1m winners rather than 6, 16 or 60m winners!

I run a small syndicate at work, 10 lines a week on a Saturday with ten members. The price increase has already been discussed, as as a result we will be changing from the 10 lines on a Saturday draw to 5 lines on the Friday Euro Lottery. I also play by dd one line a week, that will be changing to the health lottery as I can't justfy paying out double for the same.

prizes have dropped since they added wednesday, thunderball, a plethora of scratchcards, 2 euro's draws... talk about trying to milk it to the extreme!

Folk havent got the spare income nowadays for all these draws. Greedy gits springs to mind grrrrrrrrr :angry:

You can make an informed decision on golf/football though taking conditions and form into consideration, not totally accurate but the lottery is well, a lottery with very very little chance of winning anything substantial on a weekly basis.
It is true the lottery hasnt changed price in 21 years, but should it really go up 100%?

lotto goal post have been moved.
Your 3 numbers will now pay £25.00 [originally £10.00 ] looks good eh ! but hold on .
If over a certain amount of players have 3 numbers, the prize money will be decreased accordingly.
So now they have avoided their dreaded dooms'day scenario of too many players having 3 numbers at the same time , plus paying out less while charging double. A great idea

Iirc - lotto jackpot 1/14m, euro millions jackpot 1/114m

So your spending the same amount but the odds are 10 times worse.

Not sure if the thunderball is going up but I'd play that if its still £1
