The Marriot, St Pierre Chepstow - The old course

As soon as you enter the facility you are aware that this is a world class Golf course with a huge amount of history. Just inside the pro shop are photo's of Bernard Langer, Seve and other greats of the game who have played and won tournaments there, just seeing those gives you that feeling that the round is going to be something special. The course is visually stunning with views right over to Bristol and surrounding area's. Every hole feels a little different and are in perfect condition. The last four holes really make stand out, the 15th is a short par 4 dog leg left downhill to a green surrounded by water with a stunning view of the cottages and water fountains by the lake. The 17th is a tough par 4 with bunkers in the middle of the fairway and a blind approach to a downhill green surrounded by more water! The 18th is a brutal 230 yard uphill par 3 which is a perfect card wrecking finishing hole. The food is absolutely top class as was the service received the entire day. Simply a must visit Golf Course.

Interesting write up, Im sort of assuming the course must have been rebuilt since I was last there to get such a rave review. For me was a nice enough course but certainly didnt rate it as highly as you do, a few good holes but a few weak ones too from memory

Off to play this place in July with a society - Day 1 on the new course, day 2 on the old. 18 sounds nasty!

Played there once a few years ago (2006). Some great holes but like Fundy said there are a couple of weak ones too. Before we played we had a pot of tea for two, cost was over £7.00

Amazingly, we were in Wales and it wasn't rainingoo:

Played and won the regional qualifier for the GM Centenary Finals there so got very fond memories. Some nice holes without it being as memorable as Woburn or West Hill. Thought it was in good condition and enjoyed my game

They have rebuilt 4 greens in the last 2 years and the first and 7th are currently being rebuilt as well

We had a Bacon and egg roll each and 2 pints for £14 which is what id expect at places like that.

I played there in January this year, the weather was pure hell but I still enjoyed it, some great holes and the 18th is just a beast.

I had a weekend there a few years ago, ^^^ this pretty much sums up my views. Not bad but nothing special. I actually preferred the Mathern course with it's winding creeks across the fairways.
