the life of a mod?

Would you care to elaborate on your correction of them being dodgy with secretive handshakes ?

What is your experience of this, or is it just regurgitating a widely pre conceived idea.

Are you saying that your Chapter doesn't have them? My father's certainly had 'secret' rituals and the initiation oath certainly 'discourages' their dissemination! As to being dodgy, I don't believe there's any greater (or lesser) percentage than elsewhere, but there have certainly been some dodgy things done by some members of Lodges.

The lodges do have secrets to a certain extent, but that confirms that they are a society with secrets as opposed to a secret society.

Pretty much all the ceremonies can be read about on the internet or borrowing the appropriate book from the library, so the ceremonies are hardly secret.

Have to agree that there is always a bad apple to spoil the barrel, but I would probably guess to lesser degree than main stream society.

A lot of the charitable work that us done by many lodges is done for the benefit of the less fortunate in the community, often without much press coverage. Often at their own request. I believe that the money donated to charitable causes in Ayrshire last year was in excess of £100,000.

In many ways boy scouts for 'grown ups'... But in many areas of public service masons have too much influence...
