What is it?

We are in a recession are we not yet the following has happened recently :-

Half a dozen emails to golf clubs in Nothern Ireland looking for prices/availability for 12 golfers in April.

5 Hotels in County Down emailed for rooms for the 12.

These emails have been sent on numerous occasions, some as reminders, over the last 9 days and as yet not one reply has been had.

I take it things are booming in that part of the world?

Unbelievable.:mmm:

Totally agree, I take the initial contact as a good example of the level of customer service I can expect in the future. If I send an email offering to spend money with a company and they do not reply then God knows how long I will have to wait for a response if I have an actual problem. Most companies get 48 hours to reply then a chase up and if that does not get a prompt response then they are off the list.

Communication strategies in companies are always the last to get the attention they require.
Many companies set up a process to handle non-voice communication that, while initially successful, ultimately turns out to be non-scaleable when volume increases and therefore the service level, inevitably, drops through the floor.
From my experience of practicing Lean Process Improvement to companies many have their heads buried in the sand about the problem whilst others, in the grand scheme, don't need to worry too much about their non-voice enquires as they drive a small percentage of revenue business.

If the course/hotel you have emailed is a popular one then it's possible that they generate enough business to survive the recession without the need to have email as their primary source of business.

Probably symptomatic of the first part then. Set up an email response system to keep up with the times with no scaleable process to maintain it when volume got too great for the, probable, one person that mans it.
Either that or you set off the Pikey spam filter and they sat and laughed at your request before consigning it to the cyber bin...

To me it doesn't matter what size your company is or how well you may be doing a reply takes what 3 minutes?

Customer care in UK is poor at best on a whole.

am currently waiting on a reply from a job interview i went to before xmas. big company. ive already sent an email to them two weeks ago but not heard a peep. even a no you didnt get it would make me happy but nothing yet

Thats shocking! if you're ok with it PM me and I'll see if I can offer any help or advice

Always amazes me that companies don't respond to people showing a clear interest in spemding their money with them. I've had similar experiences recently, currently in the process of joining a new club (atuaclly paying my subs there this Thursday) but I emailed several with letters of interest in structure, pricing, clearly stating i'm actively seeking new membership.

Out of 9 clubs I contacted only 3 responded, 1 of which is to become my new chosen home for my golf. The 6 that didn't bother with responding I emailed again to say how i'd previously enquired and as no reply to my interest was forth coming I was going elsewhere. I only sent them to gee them up to see if i'd get a respone and didn't get a peep from any of them. There was me thinking these clbs that were advertising membership actaully wanted new members!

Just can't understand this current obsession of impersonal contact.

If you want information, pick up the blankety blank phone and use interpersonal skills - or have these now been completely lost. It seems that no-one wants to actually talk any more.

Phone rings, someone picks it up and you have got their attention. The email or text that they might have been considering replying to gets put to one side, again. How many times have you been talking to someone, maybe a shop assistant, a customer, friend, whatever, their phone rings and you are left on the sidelines?

As BT used to say, it's good to talk.

Ditto,

Large (golf) manufacturer, advertised position, applied on 5th December as per instructions, followed up with direct email to HR on 17th December asking for any further news (cut off date, interview dates), followed up on 10th January with direct email again for a status report (successful, not successful) then telephoned directly on 15th January, the HR contact was engaged so I left a personal message on her voice mail with contact details etc and still to date not a single reply or response!

Its one thing not responding to indirect and direct emails for 7 weeks but to not reply to a personal message left on a personal voice mail 10 days ago....

Absolutely disgusting.

I've now sent a complaint email to the main head office in the USA to let them know that the UK division of their brand and specifically the HR department are unprofessional and if nothing else, ignorant and bad mannered.

I'm not expecting a reply or interview now ;)

As has been said above, what does it take to say;

Thank you for your email but on this occasion..

We have received your CV and will be in touch over the coming weeks...

Thank you, we will be starting interviews in April...

I now know what it feels like out there for those looking for jobs and being treated and feeling 2nd rate, I went for this as I thought it would suit me and I certainly filled all the required advertised criteria. I think if I experience anything like that again I may just have to look at being self employed or starting a new business venture again.

If you haven't received a single reply, I would also wonder whether your emails are getting jammed in firewalls or spam filters.

Possibly but surely doubtful as many other hotels, golf courses etc reply sharpish to the many emails I send through a year organising golf events, trip and holidays.
