I remember playing golf almost every day at our local Muni, Silverknowes Golf Course. We used to go down and play at 6:30am before the starter was there. We'd then be back around 1:30 in the afternoon for our main round of the day. A junior round cost 5p in those days. fairways were burnt yellow after weeks of sunshine and no rain.

6/7 years old.

Getting cained by Mother Teresa (all 4ft 11 of her) in St. Pats infants school, living in 5 storey tenements, that had a view over the river Mersey. these days it would be a great yuppie flat, costing about £200 k. Woodchip wallpaper, Elvis was dying and Liverpool winning the league again......

I remember going the beach in Moreton and you had the towel over you instead of lying on it, as every 5 minutes you had to get up and shake all the ladybirds and flying ants off the towel, as there were biblical swarms of them.

Butlins Pwlhelli for holiday, with about 30 others in our extended family. Went in the fancy dress as "Adam", which entailed my mum putting a leaf over my trunks - some imagination, eh?

I was 13 and me and two pals went on a walking holiday in Derbyshire. We pulled up at Hathersage Youth Hostel and said three beds for the night. er have you booked " no, didn't know we had to". fortunately they had three beds, my mates said my face was a picture when we were given jobs to do before we left. Eh what's that all about. We were asked where we were spending the next two nights. Edale youth hostel. They rang them and they said no your not there booked solid. Spent the next two nights in a farmers field. Mr farmer Giles let his cows in the field on the first morning, the made a bee line straight for the stream as it was beefing hot. Straight through the middle of our bloody tent whilst we were in ere were cows tripping over guy ropes and everything. Eventually when we got out farmer Giles who had literally wet his pants laughing advised us to move our tent.
me dad picked us up on the bank holiday Monday, we told him we were at the red phone box on the outskirts of Edale ( no mobiles then ) only edale was two miles away. Eventually after looking for us for an hour, he found us and he went mad.
I was burnt to a crisp.
That summer was the hottest ever, only matched by the winter of 77 or 78 for extreme weather.

I was only 5 but i had operations on both of my legs which resulted in me being cast in walking plasters all Summer up to both knees . These were old school and as soon as there was any type of hairline crack in the plaster i had to go back and get them redone. The nurses found all sorts down there and the stench when they took them off to redo them still stands with me today. That Summer was unreal , the lakes at Hylands Park (in Chelmsford where they hold the V Festival) all dried up , Hanningfield Reservoir was only 20% full and the roads melted.

I was 14, played cricket or football every day of the summer holidays except for two weeks on holiday somewhere in the middle of Norfolk. I was bored to death and desperate to get back to my mates for more cricket or football. Evenings were spent riding on the Woolwich Ferry in the fruitless hope of meeting girls :)

Outdoor Subbuteo is what I remember

and watching Michael Holding bowl and immediately adding 15 yards to my run-up when playing cricket in the school playground.
