This year, I was determined that if I was ever to reach the heady levels of Single figures, this was it .

Playing reasonably well early in the year, I was eager for the Comps to start in April, and thought i'd mentally prepared myself.
However, its been a mitigated disaster so far, and a constant succession of 'snatching defeat from the jaws of victory' results, and needless to say, no HC reductions. :(

Ok, so a couple of 35pt Stablefords, followed by a 33pt'er, werent that bad, but after 20pts each time on the Front 9, you can see what's happening, and my back 9's have been pathetic by comparison :D

Yesterday's medal resulted in a Nett 73, (4 over) after yet again a reasonable front 9, including a Triple bogey
Recovered well only to play like a drain on the back 9.

I think its just a case of wanting to get the HC down tooooooo much, and theerefore heaping pressure & expectation on myself, with tension creeping in perhaps and all the problems that invites.

So, I'm gonna take a leaf out of some of our excellent junior's methods, and just RIP IT.

It seems that perhaps, you can try tooooo hard ??

Count yourself lucky. In the last 2 medals I've stood on 16 +7 and +5 gross respectively and finished 6, 6, 6 (+6 for those three holes) so I feel the pain. The only advice I can give you is keep knocking at the door and it will open

I know the feeling mate, Ive been stuck between 5 and 6 for 3 seasons...I really just want to claim the bragging rights over my big bro!

the worst thing you can do is go out with the attitude that oh i just needd .4 to get me to....play the round then worry about your cut!!

Graembo is right! Your putting too much pressure on yourself especially towards the end of the round if you know you've had a good front nine. Pro's always talk about staying in the moment just thinking about the next shot and no further.

I played Crowoborough Beacon last night for only the second time since I left there 9 years ago.
Started well, parred the first, couple of silly shots but had 18 points after 9.
Started the back nine par, birdie, par so took 9 points off of those 3 holes and started to think about my scoring. Then blobbed the 13th (shortest hole on the bloody course) and after outdriving my mates by at least 30 yards on the par 5 14th and giving myself a great opportunity to hit the green in two with just a 5 iron, dumped it into the trees on the left. A drop, chip out, chip on and two putts saw another blob. I ended up on 35 points with the two blobs so not as bad as it could have been. But well cheesed off with myself for making such stupid mistakes.

Absolutely !!
At our Club, from memory, we have ......

17yr old off 1
2 x18yrld olds off 6
16 & 18yr old's off 10.
16 off 14
and a 22yr old off 0.7 !!

I'm used to being a Club longer than most I play with, then when I play with some of these boy's, I'm a Club shorter !! :D

Great to play with tho, they have a very laid back manner, and as I say, they just rip it .

Sounds like pretty fair golf to me Smiffy, considering you've only played twice in 9 years! I've never played there but imagine as it's well renowned, a tough course.

How's the new cart bag by the way, and didn't I read that you've also got a new putter?

Really looking forward to Chartham Park on the 25th, just hope my game is in better condition than it has been of late! :)

I wasn't too disappointed with my game Chris, Crowborough is quite tough. Driving is the important part around there and luckily that is the strongest part of my game at the moment so it does make it a little easier to score well!
Looking back, I think I only missed two fairways (5th and 16th) and that was only by a foot or so in each instance. Thing is at Crowborough you don't have to be that far off the cut stuff to be in trouble. I ended up making par at 5 and bogied 16 so it wasn't too costly.
Haven't used the new bag yet as it only arrived yesterday, but I have transferred all of my stuff from my Mizuno bag and it does all seem to sit in the new one better. I can't get over how many little compartments the new one has! And the putter is going great. Have played two rounds with it so far and not had a three putt yet, so it's an improvement!

A new putter Smiffy?
I hope you haven't been practicing with it  ;)

Yep.
Mizuno Bettinardi.
Not been practicing, but last two rounds out with it I haven't putted too badly at all.
It could be replacing the MD in my bag, another couple of rounds will confirm.
