The Dreaded Shank

I had it with short pitch shots, still very occasionally do when my technique gets sloppy.

I tended to fan the face open on takeaway (get a bit armsy) and this meant I presented the hosel presented at impact.

Sometimes made worse by coming a bit over the top on the way down.

Are you defiantly hitting it off the hosel ??, a shank is not always hitting the hosel

After returning to golf after a back injury I got to a stage anything over a half swing I would shank to the right ..Never had one in my life but bit the bullet and booked a lesson .
It turned out my shoulders were kind of hunched and the main issue was early extension . Basically on the down swing i was un-hunching my shoulders and standing up early bringing the club head towards me thus smashing it off the toe or embarrassedly missing the ball completely.
If it wasnt for the lesson i would of never figured it out on my own as i presummed i was hitting the hosel not the toe when shanking it .
