Good honest review that. Good value if you have a course local and want to do twilight. Points for a weekend seem fair as you would imagine it to be the busiest time. £29 extra for getting a handicap is a little steep but I suppose that's a club membership as opposed to the de vere golf membership.I'm a member of the DeVere "Club". My home course is Wokefield Park and at the start of the year, I purchased 100 points for £295 and was given 20 additional points as a bonus. I also paid £29 fees to be registered for a handicap, which is official and allows me to play in comps etc.
Depending on when you play it determines how many points it is. Saturday morning for example is more costly than a midweek twilight. At Wokefield a Saturday peak time is 8 points for the round, so this equates to approximately £20 for the round. A twilight is 3 points, so that's about £7, which is pretty good value.
If I want to, I can play and use my points at any other DeVere venue (including the Brabazon) and each course has slightly different points cost to play. Brabazon weekend is something like 36 points, or roughly £90.
You also get a few additional fringe benefits such as discount in the bar, discount on nights booked, and access to leisure facilities at a reduced rate etc.
For me it is perfect. I don't get to play very often and this is extremely flexible as it offers me full club benefits, i.e. comps etc without the higher cost of a 7 day membership. Cheapest near me is about £750 for the year.
The course at WP is in great condition at the moment as well, which helps.
The downside is it can be busy in the summer with hotel guests and this can affect the speed of play, but I'm not one of these people that gets worked up because they're not done in 3 hours.
