The De Vere Club

I'm a member of the Belfry which is a De Vere club but I'm not on the De Vere scheme, I believe you pay around £300 then have a certain amount of points to spend, you then use the points every time you play a De Vere course until they run out. I'm guessing the better the course the more points you use.

Not for me I'm afraid.

Daveyboy, do you know anybody at the belfry who is on the scheme?

It looks like it'll suit me but I'd like to know more before I go for it and I feel speaking to belfry staff will be no good as I won't get an honest story from them.

I don't I'm afraid mate but I can find out when I play tommorow, a lad I play with on here will know more ill drop him a message to fill you in

As for the Belfry staff its a lot more relaxed and chilled at the club than people think, I thought it would be snobby but its totally the opposite, luckily as I wouldn't have lasted 5 mins ha ha

Thanks, would be great if you could do that.

I don't think I'm worried about the staff, more other members being snobby or looking down on young (ish) members. Do you find that you get on fine with other members that you don't know?

Mate believe me I do not fit in with snobby circles and I've never once felt like I'm frowned up-on at the Belfry, I'm 27 and felt just like you before I went there. There are only around 300 members anyway so most people are only there for the day. Ive honestly found Pype Hayes Muni a lot more snobby lol

PS I rarely tuck my shirt in but don't let them know on here or ill be lynched.

Haha!

I think I'll go and take a look around the place and speak to the staff and find out a bit more about the scheme and read the small print!

In the meantime if anybody else can give more info it'd be great.

I did before posting the thread, there were only a few results and the last one was over 6 months ago, so wanted an up-to-date view.
the basic premis of it is that you pay £300 and this gives you points, depending on were you play certain points are removed till you have none left but you can pay to top up,not all the deveres give the same treatement as that of a member of the course your playing and some do not alow you to enter the club comps,if you don't play everyweek and don't mind moving about to play it is fine,i know a few at my club who joined last year and used to have mini breaks and used the devere club cards to play, but they never got more than 6 rounds before they ran out of credit.

Thanks for that. I'm hoping the fact that I can play in the evenings will mean the 100 points stretch further than 6 rounds. If not, I'll keep away from it!

As Fundy says, Full_Throttle is a member of the scheme and we played at Staverton the other week as I wanted an eyeball before a matchplay comp their, it cost only £9.00 due his De Vere membership which isn't associated to any specific club/course, I think.

He'll explain it, I never really got to grips with it fully but it is points related.

The de vere club have 11,000 members on this scheme. A mate who is a member at oulton hall in Leeds said its just a cheap membership and feels like its a joke. Also said 5-6 hr rounds on a Saturday but don't know if that's related to the membership.

The flexibility of the De Vere Club has been one of its main selling points, as it allows golfers to play at each of the De Vere resorts across the country, under one membership, while still offering all the benefits of a traditional golf club membership. Members are able to nominate their ‘home’ club, hold a handicap and play in competitions, as well as enjoy a whole host of added benefits including discounts on hotel rooms, spa, golf equipment, food and beverage plus attractive member referral incentives.

I'm a member of the DeVere "Club". My home course is Wokefield Park and at the start of the year, I purchased 100 points for £295 and was given 20 additional points as a bonus. I also paid £29 fees to be registered for a handicap, which is official and allows me to play in comps etc.

Depending on when you play it determines how many points it is. Saturday morning for example is more costly than a midweek twilight. At Wokefield a Saturday peak time is 8 points for the round, so this equates to approximately £20 for the round. A twilight is 3 points, so that's about £7, which is pretty good value.

If I want to, I can play and use my points at any other DeVere venue (including the Brabazon) and each course has slightly different points cost to play. Brabazon weekend is something like 36 points, or roughly £90.

You also get a few additional fringe benefits such as discount in the bar, discount on nights booked, and access to leisure facilities at a reduced rate etc.

For me it is perfect. I don't get to play very often and this is extremely flexible as it offers me full club benefits, i.e. comps etc without the higher cost of a 7 day membership. Cheapest near me is about £750 for the year.

The course at WP is in great condition at the moment as well, which helps.

The downside is it can be busy in the summer with hotel guests and this can affect the speed of play, but I'm not one of these people that gets worked up because they're not done in 3 hours.
