The Budget

Why even bring up the income tax change when it's not for another year......political point scoring, nothing more.

Has oor Eck ever mentioned fuel duty/prices if Scotland goes independent, if he could promise £70p/litre for 5 years I'd vote yes right now.:smirk:

If you do that, can Merseyside become a Scottish protectorate.

'cos it wasn't Blair and Brown that helped put us in this mess was it.......

Craw's right though, it doesn't matter who's in, the world is in an econmical mess and there's no easy way to resolve it.

To be fair, its deeper than Blair and Brown although they both buried their heads in the sand which didn't help. The collapse of the American banking system wasn't down to Blair and Brown and the economic meltdown and waves from that were mirrored the world over.

I appreciate that Craw, just find it amusing that many blame the Tories for the problems we are having. Whilst they are the ones in power now, they actually inherited much of it. I'm not pasting my political heart to the mast here, more of a devil's advocate. Realistically though, it's gonna take a lot of tough love to get us out of the debt that the country is in, regardless of who is in power. I guess it's just easy to blame the current leaders...

I wonder just how Labour would be handling it all?

Labour would have us believe that they would do the total opposite. Not because it's the right thing to do but because in politics it seems that the opposition seem to think that being the opposition means they have to do the exact opposite of everything the ruling party says or does.
It's like kids in a playground.

First world problems though isn't it.

Your average Greek worker is facing an actual 25% reduction in wages, now that is something to complain about!

Although I think the argument that the 50% tax rate is putting off millionaires rather disingenuous.

When Brown was still in power he had the quant notion that the best way out of the recession was to spend your way out. So there you are in debt up to the eye balls, and the answer is to borrow shed loads more money, and spend it.

Good job he isn't in charge then.

England's greed screwed up England. Out of control credit card spending and re-mortgaging based on the sole assumption that their house price would rise by 5% every year until they die.

Anyone know why the Tories are introducing minimum alcohol pricing in Wales and England two years they blocked the SNP's bill to do the same in Scotland?

Give the high earners a 5p reduction income = almost £7k.

Reduce pensioner's tax allowance.

How on earth can a Tory look in a mirror and not see a dispicable robber?

For the first time in my voting life, over 30 years, I wouldn't dream of voting Tory... they've crossed a line with taking money off pensioners.

Its his phrase "we are in this together" that really gets my back up... He's done nothing in this budget to convince me he actually means it... Awards himself and cronies a tax cut whilst kicking pensioners in 'the grannies'...

He doesn't give a Friar Tuck...

All I heard was ciggies are going up a lot... what else did I miss? 1p on a gallon of beer again so the thugs can keep getting p*ssed and smashing up the highstreets?

The problems started when Thacher got into bed with the bankers and run down manufacturing industry in this country. Since then all governments are being held to ransom by the city as we don't have a manufacturing industry to fall back on.

Every decision made by the last Labour and the current Coalition government is aimed at keeping the city happy as without their support the country would be in a worse state than Greece. The mess we are in now was caused by a global financial crisis caused by ours and other governments turning a blind eye to the doggy financial practices carried out by the bankers et al.

Unfortunately the coalition lead by the Tories have some mistaken belief that they can cut back public sector jobs and that the private sector will take up the slack and we won't end up with millions unemployed. The problem is the banks won't lend any money to the private sector, so no new jobs.

The budget is clearly aimed at appeasing the city and the credit ratings agencies with a small sop to business in the guise of a reduction in the 50p tax rate and a reduction in company tax. So who pays for all this, yep, you me and those pensioners who have enough forward planning to put some money aside.

So are we 'all in it together'?
