Callaway Drivers

I've owned both and currently use the Ai Smoke Max.

What can i say....its visually appealing both on the rack in shops (which seems to be important to some reviewers) and at address with its attractive slate grey carbon weave effect crown.

Sits nicely behind the ball....not too closed....has a pleasing sound/feel at impact and is pretty forgiving of mis-hits. The standard Tensei shaft seems to suit me reasonably well (as does the Denali that is in the Elyte range).

Decent driver....to be fair though I'm not sure that any of the mainstream manufacturers really releases a dud. Sometimes parts of their product range standout from the rest...as an example the Elyte fairway woods are simply awesome...the Elyte hybrids less so.

I had a Paradym X before the Ai smoke and definitely felt the Ai Smoke was an upgrade on it. I tested the new Elyte driver a few months ago and felt that it didn't offer me any significant gains (either distance or accuracy) that made me want to shell out £480 odd notes for it....so the Ai Smoke Max stays in the bag.

Very decent review, appreciate it.

When I did my driver fitting just over a year ago, the AI Smoke Max D was actually noticeably the longest one. I just didn't get it because the Ping G430 was easier for me to hit straight, and not too far behind on distance. But Callaway definitely the longest. Crazy that they've already brought out two more sets of drivers since then as well as that was only September 2024.

My lad has the Ai Smoke Max.
Regular 50g Shaft - probably needs to move into a stiff now as he's growing and swing speed increasing.

He loves it, he often has a swing with his mates drivers and never comes back saying he was blown away by anything different.

Last time in the sim he was getting about 225 yards of carry and he rarely hits one way off target with the club.

I'll counteract that with saying I don't like the feel of it, but I think that's due to the lightweight shaft more than anything else.

Older Maverick max. Cost me $100.
I'm 80 . Gold tees. I manage 160 - 170 down the middle every time. I'll keep on keeping on. Golf Pride mid size grip. That was the game changer.
