The best teaching method in golf??

I have Richard Strongert to thank for much of my good golf. I can't find it at the moment but he did me well the past couple of years.

I find watching his video helps to bed in the basics. The rest is practice.

I have had a few lessons from a pro and they certainly did help.

I had a putting lesson and my pro said he wouldn't teach me because I wasn't doing anything wrong. That is just practice.

I find all this "I teach myself" and "I learnt from my own tests.." interesting but amusing. Why do the best players in the world still have lessons with coaches. Arguably they are the best at playing the game and know their own swing inside out but all choose to have someone else look at their game. If it is good enough for the world #1 to have a lesson it is definitely good enough for me

The best players in the world have the best coaches, not your bog standard pro for £20 quid for half hour.
Most players that have a lesson, are having a lesson for a quick fix because somethings gone wrong with there game.
Continuous lessons week in week out to become a better player are an expensive luxury most people cant afford.
You may find it amusing Homer and interesting about people that teach themselves.
But i find it amusing that people will pay for lessons,or continuous workings with there pro, then keep complaining that there games so sh--e.

You can’t dismiss something you’ve never had. If you never had a lesson, then how do you know?

I remember the frustration playing with a regular golf partner who beat me out of sight in every game by 10/15 shots. He never had a lesson.

He broke every swing, pitch, chip and putt rule in the book . I told my teacher of my frustration and he said, “ he will never improve, but you will”. He was so right. I have overtaken him and beat him on most occasions.

Another thing I have learned; never to listen to any advice unless it's coming from a single figure handicapper

I guess it depends on the person. I think 99% of golfers who want to get to a decent level would benefit from lessons.

I could have played of 18 easily without lessons, I wouldn't have got to 10 without them.

What's your h'cap Rob?

24 as of writing mate.

Think that handicap alone tells an interesting tale. All this self dignosis and personal testing isn't setting the golfing world alight. Why not book a one off 30 minute swing MOT with a pro somewhere and see what he says about your game. You might just be surprised
