The Belfry - Brabazon - 5hrs for 16holes.

Ridiculous that they just let anyone on a Championship Ryder Cup course. Fair enough on all the other courses, but there's not many world class courses that people that have never played before are allowed on.

Money talks!

When I played 10 years ago, i had my handicap cert checked (1st time ever!) before I played the Brabazon - guess times have changed.

The Brabazon isn't a World class course - nowhere near

Why shouldn't people be able to play on it ?

It hosted the Ryder Cup. It has a certain marquee value to it. Is there any other Ryder Cup venue where you can get on no questions asked? No handicap certificate check? and that allows beginners to hack around for 5 hours?

Yes -Celtic Manor and no doubt Gleneagles

Seen low HC hack round Celtic Manor at over 5 hours

It's far from "beginners" causing issues at places like Belfry

It makes the GM top 100 (80) and it has a certain cachet after hosting the RC. I wouldn't say it's world class but is definitely one that should be on a bucket list to play. I feel the issue has to be with the organisation who seem happy to take the cash and get the punters out without ensuring their ability which surely would suit the PGA or Derby better.

I am usually the first to knock the belfry and the marshals do need to grow a pair. The slow play however has nothing to do with the belfry. I have witnessed on several occasions customers at the reception and on the course screaming to high heaven that they've been asked to pick up the pace.

The slow play is down to the players, plain and simple. When playing a normal round most normal golfers pick up when they cant score or get given 2 foot putts. Not on the brab. Most players insist on playing every shot and look for every ball. Constant marking and re-marking of balls doesn't help either.

What else can the belfry do? The derby is always full on weekends too and with 8 minute slots not 10 you would think it would be slower???? Not even close to the torture of a weekend brabazon round

I thought it was only fair to update the thread,

The Director of golf called me on Friday, we have been given a complimentary 4ball back on the Brabazon to be used by the end of March.

In my view this is great customer service, and whilst i had hoped this would be the outcome, i cant say i was expecting it to be

Blimey that is a good outcome. Ian, the director would usually steal the hole out of your last polo

That is a very good result and the sort of customer service you would expect to be the norm

Great news, you have the full 18 six hour experience to look forward to:rofl:

I agree.
And am quite envious, as said before this is certainly on the bucket list to play!

Just dont get drawn into playing it on the play and stay offers they do over the winter. It drains the worse out of all 3 courses and always looks somber in the winter too

I can imagine this applies to most courses in the U.K., but I get what you're saying.
I had a look on their website and the majority of deals, although fairly priced in my eyes, are to be used by the end of Feb, so a little pointless really.
