The Belfry - Brabazon - 5hrs for 16holes.

I've played quite a few iconic courses and I've still got a few I'd love to play, and although I live very close to the Brabazon, and with what I have consistently read about it, I'm not rushing to play it any day soon.

I don't care what anyone else says, it's a top golf course. I've played most of the too I one courses in the uk now, and whilst it's not as good as Wentworth or Woburn, it's still well worth the trip.

The greens were sublime.

You've just got to box clever. Book a early tee time in advance and a 3 hour round awaits you

If you like Parkland courses it is a good course

Its always in very good condition and the greens are very good

It is worth going there once

But because of the Ryder Cup etc it is rammed and it ruins any expirence

If you played it on a good day with no traffic about it would be a good day

For me its not a top 100 course when compared to others

Played the Brabazon once in the GM organised forum day. With a field made entirely of GM Forum, staff and readers you can guarantee a smooth flowing course can't you. Took over 5 hours.

That's my view. Played 3 times. Like it. But without the cash Devere paid to get the Ryder Cups... it's a decent newish course kept on good condition.

Add the Ryder Cup stuff. ...the atmosphere is ramped up a notch or two. ( as are the bar prices 😆😆)

It's similar to the 2010 experience although a better course then the 2010. Personally I think it is a top 100 course in England (especially as Forest of Arden/Oxfordshire & East Sussex national are in it), but they've made it worse by doing things like putting the 10th tee so far forward. It was 220yds downhill yesterday. Basically a par 3!

yeah cant disagree with that - Top 100 in England - just when i play somewhere like Blackmoor or Littlestone and both better courses but outside Top 100

Better than FOA and Oxfordshire for me and that stupid putting the 10th tee there ?! Im guessing just to tempt people to go for the green and the Ryder Cup "expirence"

Completely agree with all of that. I hit 5iron yesterday. Hardly an experience!!

Both Blackmoor and littlestone are on the top 100 list I'm working through (2012).

However you could do 36 @ Blackmoor in the time it took us yesterday!!

Guess they need to find a way to pay for the upgraded hotel

All those sort of course IMO would be far better without the hotel attached

Just being a golf club and nothing else

The Brabazon could be spectacular - but to fill it day in day out and suffer 5 hour plus rounds will ruin it in the long run

I was meanign top 100 in the UK and Ire for Littlestone and Blackmoor - both outside where as Brabazon is in the Top 100 - cant believe its higher than all three Woburn courses as well

Going to a course like that I would fully expect it to be an all day thing and ensure I am prepared.

Some things in life are beyond your control, you can change your home club but a place like this, just enjoy the day out!

How on earth can anyone enjoy only managing to play 16 holes because 5 hours wasn't long enough due to some muppets up ahead and poor marshalling / management?

Yeah thats my view, i buy the fact that its going to take longer than a normal round of golf, but when you've been out there 2.5hrs and only played 7 holes and you already know your not going to get round, it was hard to really care. Gutting really as i was -2 through 9, but just lost interest.

I've written a 'complaint' letter so am hoping we can get some sort of deal to go back.

Im going to play the Derby and Brabazon over a weekend in October.

It does say on the confirmation rounds will take at least 4hr 40 min for the Brabazon.

Still slow play is a real killer and I begin to lose interest if things dont keep ticking over.

I was looking at booking a golf break for next June the other week. I tried Forest of Arden and was told that the earliest tee times they had for next June on both days over a weekend was mid afternoon, so that was a non starter.

So I started looking at other options and I was amazed by the number of comments there were on forums/review sites about how slow the play was at the vast majority of them. It seems like quite a few courses are trying to get on the golf breaks gig to bring in some revenue and getting as many bookings as they can (which in a way is understandable). But if this means horribly slow rounds then surely this is not sustainable, I discounted loads on that basis.

Whenever I have played the Brabazon I have been round in under 5 hours - obviously just lucky I guess!

As others have said, course is always in fantastic condition. It's only got a few memorable holes, but still a great day out IMO. As for the resort itself, great facilities and well worth staying at as part of a golf break (we had dinner, bed and breakfast option with the golf and couldn't fault it). Only downside are the bar prices, but that's to be expected really.

Yes that's what we've found on most resorts course's, although for us as a group of 20-24 of all handicaps it's not an issue at all. We did Slaley in 4.30hours one day and 5.30 the next, similar with Carden and Formby Hall. We aren't ina rush as we are away playing golf for the weekend but can imagine if you are then it would annoy you - alot.
