The annual trip to Scotland is nearly here!

Thought I'd come back and say about what a fantastic week we all had (and gloat a little that I won!)

Brampton on the way up. Loved it, amazing course with some fantastic holes. When you walk over the road to the 7th and you have the 10th tee box and can see back up the 9th fairway, it was magnificent. Highly recommend. Probably helped that I scored 40 points, but did get cut quite a few shots...

Next day we played Grantown on Spey with a few members. A little overcast and chilly, but no rain. Played it once before and it's a lovely little course. Not overly long, but some great holes. Managed to score 35 pts round there and got another reduction for my troubles.

We then opted for Nairn Dunbar for the Monday. Weather was once again chilly, but barely a cloud in the sky. First time we'd played and we were seriously impressed. Some great holes, and the greens were some of the best we'd played on, quick and true. Scored 36 points and again another cut! Nice meal in the club house after, we'll definitely be back.

Tuesday we played Spey Valley very early in the morning. I love Spey and have played it a few times before, but it's a long old challenge. Wheels came off a little and ended up with 23 points. We then drove over to Boat of Garten, had some lunch and played a quick Texas Scramble pairs match. Boat is one of my favourite courses. Absolutely love the it so a tiring but very enjoyable day

Wednesday we headed over to Kingussie. Played it last year and was really impressed. A little disappointed with the state of the greens this year though as they had obviously only recently been done, but we only paid £12 so couldn't complain too much!! It must have helped me though as I managed 36 points!

Thursday we decided on Moray Old as we managed to get a tee for £25 via tee off times. Had a bit of an air show over a few holes as the fighter planes did some fly bys! Wasn't blown away with the course as it's quite up and down with straight drives, over a few pot hole bunkers, but the greens were in great condition it was certainly a challenge and it was nice to play a "proper" links course. Scored 33 pts, which I was very happy with!

Friday came around far too quickly and we had originally scheduled to stop off and play Carlisle on the way back, but a last minute decision and phone call saw us teeing off on the Kings course at Gleneagles for the final round. All I can say is, wow what a course. Absolutely fantastic. The greens were incredible. So difficult to read and quick. Lord knows what they would be like in summer! Highlight of the round was the birdie on the 14th after almost driving the green. Just missed the eagle putt, but it meant I was about 14 pts ahead with only 4 holes to go and could relax! Ended up with 36 points.

Everything just clicked for me and was playing some great golf (for me). Prior to the trip I had only managed to break 90 once before and I managed to do it 5 times in 7 rounds. Now I'm begging the wife to let me play in the monthly medal tomorrow to see if I can finally get an official cut. My society h/cap saw me come down almost 5 shots!

Sounds like a great trip. Play the medal, get your cut and deal with the wife later

ah Nairn Dunbar, i was talking about Nairn

TBF so was I, but we opted for Nairn Dunbar after the recommendation of the Grantown members and the cheap tee time we managed to get through tee off times.

Don't worry I'm fully educated on the etiquette of not confusing Nairn with Nairn Dunbar! :)

Did you notice that in Scotland the roads are quiet and there's no immigrants?

And the winner for the most random and oddest comment of the day goes to...

Edit: OK, just seen Delcs thread. Not sure what relevance it has in this thread though

Pretty easy course. 36 points with a blob and was only firing on 3
;)

Understand its very much a marmite course - a number of our guys had a trip up there. Half said it was ok - niceish course - the others said it was bland and in poor state and felt it had a high opinion of itself that they couldnt justify

how does a course have a high opinion of itself????

the club or its members don't do the ratings

I assume he is referring to the fact a visitor fee is over £100 to play a midweek round and by "course" he means the club who set the price.

yeah, i don't think he is, just spouting the usual tripe.

the club just charges the going rate, Dornoch is higher and Castle Stuart want £170 +

as for the course being in poor condition, The R& A tournament consultants were inspecting the course last week for the forth coming Home international s and British Boys championship and rated the course in "excellent condition"
