played in a texas scramble recently, teams of 9 and play nine holes so each person had one drive, just wanted to know the rules when on the green, noticed that in other groups the next person to put was stood behind the player putting so he could get the line, anybody know if that is allowed, :D

Since the Rules of Golf don't recognise this as a real form of golf then anything goes ;)

It's up to the committee to make their rules before everyone starts and make sure everyone knows the competition rules.

Teams of Nine.... did you get in before dark ?

Well your all on the same team so you can discuss it but I don't think your allowed to stand directly behind the line before striking the ball. You can stand to the side and have a look once hit but the initial line you can't watch them hit.
That's my interpretation of it anyway but could be wrong.
I like Texas scramble, great version of the game if on a weekend away with the lads. :)

thats what we thought, but our team captain said "it wasn't in the spirit of the game" and he would "rather finish last than bend the rules " a statement which came back to haunt him :D just about finished the last hole and after a few beers our captain came to the conclusion that next time it would be ok if we did the same as it wasnt really a PROPER game, nothing to do with the fact that we did finish last :D

Good example of a club that has decided to make their rules for this type of play known before an event starts. Too often it's left a bit open ended I'm afraid.
