Have many of you actually been custom fit for your putter. I read lots about players being custom fit for irons, but not so much on the putter. Considering it's the most used club in the bag, should it not be moved to the top of the pecking order when it comes to being properly fitted for one.

So, how was your custom fitting experience and has it made a difference to your putting game?

It's the one club that i can probably afford to be custom fitted for at the moment. I'm using a club that was bought for me as a thankyou gift, and feel that i'm only using it due to that fact, rather than it being the right club for me.

having no previous experience of cf, I had no idea if this is the norm for a putter fit.

the pro watched me putt with a couple of different putters, said that my putting stroke needed a face balanced putter, I chose one and he cut it down to 32 in (from 35). that was it.

did it help, at the time but it's more down to who's holding the handle to keep it working.

Good and Good! :)

Paid £35 for an hours lesson and C/F. Had my existing putter adjusted for the cost of a new grip £8.50

It made an instant improvement. I admit that the advice on the grip probably accounted for 80% of that, but it's easier to get it all right with the correct length and lie.

Best money I ever spent t.b.h.

I took 4 putters so the pro could choose and have recently bought a "blade-style" putter in the same specification (which just happened to be lost and without a home at AG).

Just in case you were wondering what happened to the other 3, I kept the classic Ping, sold one to a mate and gave the odyssey to a charity shop who got a pony for it!

Just the three remaining then, all 34" and all a bit upright.

On a good day, I break 40 putts without getting in a sweat. :) :o

length is the most important part, im 6,1 and my putter is 33inches, most people i play with have putters that are too long, most pros have short putters!

Sorry, but I disagree. I believe that the lie is the most important part. Just watch people on your practice putting green and see how many of them are using putters where the toe is in the air. The length of the putter is dependent upon your wrist to floor measurement. I have a 35" putter and I am only 5'9", but I had it custom fitted and was flattened by 4 degrees. Like a wand in my hands...most of the time. :D

I think there are two broad questions. One is which style is suitable for your stroke - inside-inside, straight-straight etc. Face balanced or toe hang?

Then the other bit is length and lie (and getting the best weight for the length).

The putter length is determined by your posture.I'm 6"4 and use a 32 inch putter which is 3 degrees flat with zero loft.

I got fitted properly down at this place and I have to say it was well worth the journey.Getting fitted properly has made a big difference to my putting, especially judging the correct weight on long putts.
