Teaching your children to play

Here's my eldest son hitting a few in March of last year. He's not bad for 4 years old.
Better than his old man :)

I think he just outdrove Smiffy!

I've taken my 5yo a few times to the range, just let him have a go, only thing I've corrected is his cack-handed grip. Got a nice wee 7 iron in Auchterlonies which is designed for small kids which is ideal for his size.
I think even at this early stage he can swing ok but he loses interest fairly quickly. Gotta keep sessions short and fun.

I don't think very young kids should go to the range, it's far too boring for them unless it's a super quick trip where they blast as many drivers as possible in about 10mins whilst you do your best to fire off just as many  Better to have them chipping into a bucket or two on the practice ground.... for sweets (or cash) imo.

Main thing for me and my son (5 years old) is to let him enjoy himself!

I take him to the practice putting green and the practice bunkers at my club when it's quiet. He has a ball running around and burying his club in the bunker!! He knows a little about etiquette - staying quiet while someone else plays and the importance of taking turns and waiting for his dad to hole out after him.

Half an hour he can manage at the moment and both me and his grandad are hoping for a three generation round one day :)

I managed that in Rugby!! myself as a county colt, played with the big boys when i was 16, I played full back, my dad played hooker and my grandad played second row. He only retired from rugby aged 70!!! We made it to Rugby world magazine one year when there was about 50 years between us playing in the same team when i came back from injury in our 3rd team!

Nothing beats sport with family. even if golf is my only sport now due to no knees!
