I played this past Monday with a new driver in the bag, Taylormade's R9 Supertri (with a Fubuki Tour 73 shaft), and a new ball, the company's Penta. I shot my career best round of 77 (I'm a 12 handicap). While I wouldn't attribute my success on this particular day solely to the equipment, the driver was amazing off the tee, long and straight with a slight draw at the end (driver was set in the neutral position both in the hosel and the weights). I was also able to produce a few fades off the tee when needed, something that I was unable to do consistently in the past. Granted I hit just 7 fairways, but even when I missed a fairway, the driver put me in great positions on most holes to go after the pins. I hit 12 greens in regulation.
In my opinion, the Penta ball is a revelation. It performs extremely well in all areas, long and straight off the tee, great trajectory and spin off all irons, wonderful control around the greens, and just a buttery feel off the putter - I could not ask for more performance from a golf ball, it is, without exaggeration, simply amazing! I have been a Titleist loyalist for quite some time, but the Penta has certainly got me thinking about a permanent switch from my current Pro V1.
