TaylorMade R1 and RBZ Stage 2 metalwoods lauch - info, images, videos

Adjustability from 8* to 12* and still able to have an open or closed face sounds very exciting, especially as your swing changes through fitness or age

But in reality how many people will keep a driver for a sufficient amount of time for their swing to change due to age or fitness? I think it's a bit much the manufacturers claiming that these adjustable drivers are great as you can change them as your swing changes. But then they release new product every year or so with the implication that your driver is now out of date and there is something much better available.

I had my last driver over 5 years and persevered even though it wasn't suitable for me. Amateurs swings change almost daily, certainly weekly in my view and once past 45 it does take longer to 'get into the swing', apart from that benefit I think it will actually be great fun to go out one day with an 8* driver if your feeling strong and next day to have a high launching 12* with a draw bias and all wrapped up in the same head and shaft that you have been fitted for.

Personally, for me, Taylormade have been gimmicky for a while and finally jumped the shark with the RocketBladez irons.
I can't see myself ever considering even trying one of their clubs.

Will probably be able to pick up a TP R11s / TP RBZ for a more reasonable price now which I think I'd much prefer

You're not wrong, just bought a mint condition ex demo R11s for £155. Only been on range with it up to now for fine tuning, can't wait to try it out this weekend. I am more than happy :D

Only if you change it before teeing off of course...
I usually don't find out how I'm swinging it till I hustle on the 1st tee with my shoe laces undone, take a quick practice swing then tee off, tie my laces and wander off into the trees to find it. By then it's too late. ;)

I will say I tried the Rocketbladez 7 iron against my own whilst I was at an AG range and it was a good 10+ yards longer than my Burner 2.0 but there is no chance I'm buying them. Didn't like the look at address either.

As for the new range in question... Absolutely orrible LOL

To add if the top was plain white like the rest of TM's gear I would consider the RBZ stage 2 but not a chance with that monstrosity on top.

Because the shaft has the loft changing tip bezel what ya ma call it "fixed" on the end, when you rotate the shaft 2 deg's either way the grip is also going to be rotated and so not be straight down the shaft to a square club face! Unlike a Cally ;)

This is no major issue. When the grip wears simply replace it with a 360 degree one if grip rotation issue bothers you.

Strange...............The R11s that I bought came fitted with a 360 Plain, tour velvet
No issues if u were to play about with the settings

No probs to me anyway.............I never fiddle with settings, set at standard loft, just set soleplate Open, Put on my fave grip, sorted...........

watching Dustin J playing his R1 in the Tournament of Champions you have to be impressed with both the way it looks, and what he's doing with it.

Now it's obviously the player hitting it 410 yds dead centre just off the green (433yd par 4) but then again the club seems to be helping :)

Really looking forward to trying this club

The R11 was the first driver for years that I got excited about, it has stayed in the bag longer than any other I have had and it has served me very well. I'm consistent with it, I have off days like all of us but it mainly behaves. I am more excited about the R1 and cannot wait to see one in the flesh. Time will tell. The main thing is though if I want one I'll wait six months until the R2 comes out then get it discounted.

Disappointed to see they changed the sleeve, so that old shafts are no longer compatible. That's a shame for those of us with existing shafts that wanted to do a direct comparison with the head using my own shaft to get proper comparison data.
