Target Setting...

I started this season with the intention of reducing handicap from 20 to 18, which I did fairly early on. I decided that this was too vague a target, which made it difficult to focus on achieving, so didn't set a revised handicap target for the remainder of the season.

Instead I decided to make my targets specific to the golf I was playing, not all of them quantitive, these included

Hit majority of fairways off the tee
Follow a double/triple bogey with a par
No 3 putts in a round
More 1 putts
No penalties in a round
A sub 40 9 holes
More than 6 pars in a round
Plan my approach to each hole
No shanked wedges in a round

My thinking behind this being that if I achieved the majority of these targets, my handicap would continue to improve.

Overall, I was pretty successful, although I didn't get the sub-40 target - that's the first onto next years list.

Once I've achieved a particular target, I revise the target achieving it consistently.

I closed the season on 15.8, which I'm chuffed to bits with.

Mightymoose :-)
