Homer, you're 6 ft, I am (was) 6 2, but at the recent meet I was about mid table in terms of height. I don't know what they feed these guys on, but Fraser, Madandra, SS2, Vig, Robo are huge (height guys, not weight). And yes, they all hit the ball further than me.

Hang on, so do Dodger, IM02, Viscount, TonyM, etc.

May be I'm just a short hitter.

Hmmm. Work needed I think.

I'm sorry for stretching you, Homer. I just seemed to remember reading on this board that you were 6'2''. Anyway, getting back to the point, short guys like me have flatter swings, can draw the ball more easily and get more run. I once saw Tony Jacklin (a shortarse like me) knock a 3-wood 30 yards past Faldo's effort with the driver.

Interesting comments (as always) from the posters. I would, however, disagree with Eagle and Bobmac. If I'm 5'7'' and Homer is 6'2'' it doesn't mean that his arms are 7 inches longer than mine. They might be an inch or two longer. Bobmac is old enough to remember Peter Oosterhuis. A great golfer (IMHO) but so lanky that he used to look uncomfortable over the ball. I've read that 5'10'' or 5'11'' is the optimum height for a golfer.

Obviously you are right in what you say about being taller not necessarily meaning you have longer arms but I was talking in general terms where you will find on average 10 golfers standing at 6'2" will have longer arms than 10 golfers at 5'7". There are always exceptions but most of the time taller people will have the physical attributes to hit the ball further- whether or not they use them is dependent on their golfing ability / technique.
