Switching from glasses to contact lenses…

I couldn't get on with contacts very much and had my eyes lasered .... best thing I ever did. My long vision is now perfect and I do wear glasses to read but that is all and after wearing specs for 30+ years, 24/7, its brilliant.
No shelling out for dear specs or contacts must pay the cost of the surgery over time

Chris

I wear glasses, tried contacts and didn’t really ever get on with putting them in, so stuck with my glasses. Rain can be a pain sometime and I carry a lenses cloth in the pocket of my waterproof jacket if it gets bad. I usually wear a hat and this helps. I happen to have a pair of Oakley’s with prescription lenses in that and as Chris says didn’t cost the earth,

I wear contacts,i have monthly lenses.
I tend to wear mine longer than a month at a time.
Sometimes ive had trouble with focusing and reading slopes of greens when i leave
them in too long.
And when the wind blows my eyes water.
However they are really comfortable and i couldnt do without them.
I played football for years without lenses, and basically passed the ball to colours,
i was semi pro, perhaps with lenses i would have been a pro.

I have one contact lense. I am +5 in my left eye, and +0.2 in my right. This means I cannot wear glasses, as the difference in prescription leads to issues with image size and double vision. I have not found any problems with playing golf (except lack of general ability to hit the ball where I want). I have considered lazer surgery, but have ruled it out due to being a pussy.
My optician thinks I will need reading glasses soon. That'll be something to look forward to then.

Murph, my eldest has the same problem, one eye is useless and the other spot on so can;t have glasses, I thought it was strange but now you have said the same it makes sense.

Just booked an eye test as need new glasses, that crappy anti glare coating they put on specs these days crazes the lens like hell after a year or 2

Right lads I work for Specsavers so I'll try my best to address some of the issues in the thread.

In response to the OP - You need to be patient. You don't just adapt to contact lenses at the click of a finger. You need to build up your wearing time gradually.I'd advise you not to wear them for golf until you can wear them for the maximum time discussed by your optician.

In response to Stevie_R - Varifocal contact lenses are an option for some people, but as someone else pointed out they are expensive. The other thing is, they are difficult to get used to and don't have a high success rate.I don't generally recommend even Varifocal specs to people for golf, never mind contact lenses. The reason being the peripheral distortion etc you experience with Varifocals.I encourage people just to wear a pair of distance specs/contacts.The only time you really need near vision on a golf course is to mark a card, but you could just hold the card further away to compensate.

Homer - We can supply wrap-around frames. Here are a couple of examples we have just off the top of my head>>>>>>>>>>>>

You can also ask for special tints designed especially for golf.Sorry I don't know the exact cost but I wouldn't imagine it would be too much.Check out the link>>>>>>>>>>

If I can remember (I had laser surgery 7 years ago) when I put lenses in I had similar focusing problems, if they are still quite new try putting them in a bit before your round to give your eyes time to adjust, personally I never liked contacts but stuck with them to play sport in as they are far better than glasses. Good luck with them.

If you can have the surgery, completely painless, over in less than 15 minutes. I was doing the crossword 4 hours later with no glasses. Had it done 7 years ago, now use glasses for computer/reading but was told that would happen with age, basically gone from being short sighted to going long sighted. Dont be a pussy!!

S, it takes a while to get used to contacts. I remember playing (with you and J?) at LA and tripped on a rope around a tee!
I wore some contacts to go coaster-riding once, and although I enjoyed seeing the rides better, my vision for the day was shocking.
You'll get used to them. Try (as a minimum) to get them in plenty of time before you play.
If you're wearing them full-time, I'd say within a few days, it'll be normal service...

I can remember that trip!! Ah, those Little Aston "trips" were brilliant! What I would do to go back there soon! Some warm weather…

I am trying to wear them as much as possible but, I dropped one today, and could never find it again! I have 3 more pairs to use, so hopefully come Wednesday, I will be back to form!

i had laser treatment done about 7 weeks ago and WOW!! If you can get it done then i highly recommend it. When i was wearing glasses and even lenses i was always losing flight of my golf ball but now i can see it everytime. It is like living life in HD!!

I fancy laser but Im a bit Terrafeard to get it done.

I used to wear contacts but ended up going back to the goggles because I was getting annoyed playing in the wind, my eyes would water and it would knock them totally out of focus particularly standing over putts.

At least with the specs I can wipe my eyes put them back on and then proceed to three-putt!!

I had a 79 there 2 weeks ago. Birdies on 2nd and 15th. Pars on 3rd/4th/7th/9th/11th/12th/13th/14th......

It's not going to be warm there now for about 6 months....like my golf probably.

As I said before there is nothing to be frightened of (other than the cost!!), its PAINLESS, QUICK, and LIFE CHANGING. Do your research and go for it!!

My near vision is worse than that mate - without any specs at all I can struggle to see a clearly focused ball, however this can vary slightly day by day. It has got past the stage of holding scorecards etc nearer or further away to focus on them - that doesn't work anymore.

My distance vision isn't horrific (yet) but slowly getting worse with each eye test - presumably just an age thing.

The only real issue I have with wearing specs on the course is those rainy days when the insides of my lenses steam up - I have a tendency to run a bit hot, especially in my waterproofs!

I only have problems with long distances so do need glasses when I play golf. I have some Nike prescription sunglasses that are comfortable to wear but they don't seem to be as clear at the longer distances as my regular glasses so only wear them when the sun is really bright. With regards to the rain its not too bad when wearing a cap.
