Swing low, sweet chariot...

Genuinely not trying to be provocative here, but I've always wondered why this song has been adopted by English rugby fans. What's the connection?

You could ask ... Why does any group of supporters adopt a particular song or chant to salute their team...

Believe Swing low, sweet chariot was always a bit of a favourite hymn with followers of rugby... Just got adopted by England supporters in the mid 80's or thereabouts... Sure there is a more specific explanation but not sure what it is...

Ok. Cheers.

Rather soured the 3-1 victory of Sam's mob over the Spanish Waiter's.

Had hopes when it ent from 15-0 to 15-14 but some persistence, and some AB mistakes, sewed up a rare win! Savour it whoile you can. It won't happen again in the near future!

Ouch! It was only the best ever England performance against NZ. FH, your post has a certain, Ehem, Sour grape feel about it. I guess you are from the place where the Jocks are strapping?

It was a fantastic 2nd half performance by England and totally unexpected after a pretty scrappy 1st half. They played with a verve and passion that I love to see from any rugby team. Real ambition from the backs (Mike Brown in particular) and brutal physical defence and turnovers from the forwards. Robshaw strikes me as a decent guy and after last week's poor decision re SA it was his shot at redemption and he took it well.

If England could play like that every week they would win a Grand Slam. Whatever Stuart Lancaster did to get them up for it needs to be bottled and dished out regularly. (Oh, and send a case of it up to Edinburgh would you ?)

Think you'll find Foxholer's roots might be a bit further away than Scotland ;)

Fantastic performance, especially when AB clawed it back to a single point, it showed real strength of character.
A bit of luck was helpful too, for the first Tuilagi/Barritt try.
That total **** chris ashton, however, should get a right kicking for the showboating. A little humility would be better after two bad handling errors.
What about the brave substitutions too, bodes well for 6 nations to have the whole squad at the party!

England supporters singing SLSC? Simple - a historical English trait. See something they fancy and take it - then call it their own. Up the Empire. Great wiin btw. No two ways about it - good seeing the arrogant Blacks taking a beating.
