Sustainable Golf - are we a solution or part of the problem?

I think we should take a step back and look at what life would be like without golf clubs.

All those wide open spaces that are a home for a massive variety of wildlife and also generate loads of nice oxygen for the planet, would be a carpark or an industrial estate. or a Tescos.

So simply by being in existance, the golf club is helping preserve these areas.

So save the world, Build more Golf Clubs

Or how about just going to your club, forgetting your troubles for a few hours and enjoy a round.
I can safely say, the last thing on my mind when playing golf is anything 'environmental'.

You and i both. Golf is a hobby, its what i do to relax and get away from it all for a while. I dont fel the need to drive a hybrid or hug a tree,i recycle when i can but i wont go out of my way to do so,bit like America really.

I really cannot be bothered with this "Save the planet" stuff. I find it very strange that the people who advocate it are amongst the richest people in our society. Scientists, M.P.s and lecturers all earn far in excess of my income, they drive bigger cars than me, take more foreign holidays than I do, eat out more than me and live far more privileged lives than me.If the government were really serious about this they could ban cars over 1 litre, reduce flights to one per person per year, make all trains electric and so on. They never will so putting my plastic into a green bin will never achieve anything more than a token guilt trip.

These 3 words wind me up so much

"Save the Planet"

No.
The Planet's doing fine thanks. Its the Human race that's in trouble. All this stuff has happened before - albeit without our help - and will happen again before the Planet implodes into its component molecules. Life will go on - ok we might not be around but who says we have a right to be? Dinosaurs were around just a little bit longer so they have a bigger claim than we do.
The Tree Huggers are trying to save the Human race - can't think why - most of it is a complete mess. Wipe it clean and start again.

Think about this then.

What would all golfers be doing if they weren't playing golf on all those courses from Lands End to John 'o Groats, for an average of 3-4 hours a time.

Driving their cars to shops and supermarkets

Doing DIY in the home - all those power tools

Cutting the grass with electric mowers, shredding and strimming

Numerous other things using all that power from the National grid

So when you think about it, golfers save the planet an awful lot. :D :D

I rest my case :o

Golfmmad.
