I played my round 2 match in the HDID knockout at Northenden this morning, my opponent, off 15, met me and turned out to be a 78 year old Italian chap in a buggy, he explained he had to use the buggy due to him having had a stroke earlier in the year and could I keep an eye on his ball as the stroke had affected his vision and he couldn't see very well.
When he address the ball on the first tee he had the strangest stance, but when he hit it down the middle, I thought, well it doesn't affect his ball striking.

He won the first 2 holes but the came back to lead by 2 after 7, I put my teeshot on 8 about 12 feet from the pin, he found the back of the green but then rolled in a monster for a birdie and missed.
That set him off on a run that saw him play nine holes in just one over par and although I played pretty well and under my handicap but lost 3&2.

It was such a surprise, but when was chatting to a few other n the clubhouse afterwards they said he is a great bandit, who has quite a reputation in opens and suchlike.

Still I did have a lovely game and he was a really nice bloke and the members at Northenden couldn't have been nicer, 3 groups waved us through as soon as they saw us behind them and all were really nice in the clubhouse.

Were you not tempted to tell him he was out of bounds, just to see if his eyes were actually that bad? ;)

unlucky about the result but at least you enjoyed it and the company,we played there last week and its a lovely course and friendly bunch and even got to say hello to Denis Law in the club house:)
