Sub 3 hour rounds

Sorry Chris, but there's no point in saying "he's slow, but I'm going to let him be slow" and then get all huffy when groups behind complain about your pace of play.
You said you enjoyed a slow amble round... well, maybe others behind you didn't.

So, he plays slow, he always does, he did whilst being Captain and one guy gets stroppy with me. I have hit at least 20 less shots than him as has the 3rd player and the guy who has a strop decides to give me grief. I can't change anything, I don't "let him be slow" he is slow, I am not slow, so, are you seriously going to suggest that I can do something that no one else in the Club could do and speed him up? I just don't see that it's down to me to act like dad and tell someone off, what precisely was I supposed to do, given that the group behind were never close enough to call through, the round wasn't slow and the two groups in front were very quick?

To be fair Chris, if your group has lost ground on the group in front it's all the players responsibility to try and make that up, it's easy enough to drag a slow player on at a faster pace with some comments on pace and losing your place on the course, anyone with any sort of etiquette will recognise that if its punted out and do something about it, stand aside or speed up.

Slow play should never be accepted by anyone

Lighten up, he's a chomper himself and he knows it, eh big yin ;)

Not sure what a chomper means up your way mate. BUt he is very disrespectful towards beginners and high handicappers from what he writes. He may be a really nice bloke to play a round with as you told me before, but that is not how he comes across when he posts some of the stuff he does.

I pointed out to him a number of times that we had dropped behind. It would have slowed the field up more to call the group behind through as they were never close to us. We got round in a reasonable time but at least a hole behind the group in front. I did what I could but completely refute the view that its easy to drag a slow player at a faster pace - he hasn't been. "Dragged" by any other players in the past and won't in the future. It adversely affected my game too, but, it's all well saying that a player will respond to encouragement but in this case he didn't - so please tell me what I was supposed to do next and why it was down to me at that point?

And all this is being said from the lad who called every golfer who uses the clubhouse the R word......lol

It's hardly rocket science ... When someone's slow you ask them (politely) to shift. I know a couple of high handicappers (all be it that I don't play with them) but their not that slow.

Ok, maybe I should say most players, your past captain is obviously an ignoramus which is a shame. If he's so well known for this he shouldn't be allowed early times.

That's one for your club committee of which he'll be part of unfortunately

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????/

What are you going on about? I was in my clubhouse earlier.

Cast your mind back a few weeks when you indicated that we were all drink drivers and your use of the R word.

So don't talk to me about offending people:mmm:

Less than 8 hours now before the weekend warriors hit our fairways, well maybe not hit the fairway but you know what I mean:p

i know a few guys who work long hours have families and only play weekends and play to a better handicap then 5.

If you wish to start quoting people then at least get your facts right. The use of that word was aimed at the people who think it is ok to go into the clubhouse, sink a few pints, then get in their car to drive home.

But you assumed that's what everyone done.

Now, I do agree Valentino, and no he isn't still on the committee. He, as you say is ignorant, generally of his slow play, a nice enough person most the time but just unaware of the impact he is causing. I just didn't want to play in a competition where it's my responsibility to act as a childminder (although he's older than me) but ultimately I only shot 28 points and it was probably the cowardice of the person who confronted me and not the person who was the slow player, even though he knew who was slow, who should have vented his spleen where he knew it should have been directed

chrisd,

the problem is you may have taken 4 hours as the 3rd group out but this means half way down the field it will take 4.5hrs and the back of the field takes 5hrs.

Sorry mate but someone needs to have a word with this slow guy in your group and if necessary, ban him from playing early. A 2 hole gap between 2nd and 3rd groups isn't acceptable.
