Sub 3 hour rounds

As someone who doesn't do practice swings, I do accept that not everyone has a pre shot routine as short as mine, so I'm more tolerant of lining up, and swinging etc. At least they are taking a golf shot ...

It's the complete faffing about that irks me, when no-one out of the 4 players ahead of me seems to be doing anything.
The number of times i wait for a group to clear the green, take my shot and walk halfway to the green and no -one ahead has teed off....There's someone standing on tee staring down the same fairway that they have seen hundreds of times before, just incase 3 new bunkers and a water hazard has appeared since the day before!

Well today up here in Scotland it was pouring down so not a good day for golf however it's days like this when we should be encouraging The Weekend Warriors to go out and play at least they would have to course to themselves and not hold anybody up.

Well I'm a 100% weekend Warrior then as I work 8am-7pm Monday to Friday unless I'm working weekend and manage to wangle a lieu day in the week. So by this I'm also a hacker in bombers eyes! Genius.

I actually like the term Weekend Warrior though in my day that's what full time soldiers call the TA!

I always preferred the expression 'STAB' :)

End of the day,no matter how slow or fast you play just be aware of the speed of play around you. Let faster groups through, make sure you follow the course etiquette and surely then faster players like thecraw can play his sub 3 hour rounds, slower players who want to take longer can enjoy their games too.

For me the only thing on this thread that grates slightly, though it may be tongue in cheek hard to tell on a forum, is Bomber69's name calling of players who he deems are worse than him. If you want a reason people may not be taking up golf it is because players get abuse from people who I would think should encourage new players not degrade them.

I played today in a Stableford, with a mate and last years Captain. I got into a disagreement with a guy on a tee a couple of holes behind us as we went round the turn and passed their tee, as he said we had lost 2 holes. I asked why he has chosen to speak to me as I am in no way a slow player and he knows that. The answer was that it was MY group!!! I pointed out that everyone knows that the past Captain is not only very very slow but is also going to hit at least twenty more putts and shots more than me and my mate and its not my job to police him. The group behind were no quicker than us and it was never sensible to call them through as to do so would have slowed things up even more. We were 3rd group out and I just think that sometimes the earliest groups can pull away as there is no one in front and if they don't lose any balls it can be a very rapid round.

We did get round in exactly 4 hours and, to be fair I quite enjoyed a slow amble round

In your 4 ball there was your good self a Weekend Warrior, A Chomper and some guy from the Diggers Society.

sydney greenstreet 3 different names here for players not deemed as good as the poster. That is encouraging to new players is it? Sorry must have a different meaning north of the border for encouragement.

Similar to the term Hacker but it is not degrading and I do not think a cause for not taking up golf.

:blah::blah::blah:

Explain why you wish to make me the scapegoat? I am not a fast player, I don't run between shots, I don't go out to get round the course in X amount of time. I do play sensibly and move on.

Where is the problem?

That's right there isn't one!

It is the attitude that leads to name calling that is the issue, why do you have to call anyone a name who is not as good as you? Someone is not as good as you so what why call them a name? We have on other threads touched on what people see as eliteism, is this not just another form of it?

Sorry Chris I disagree, if your group has lost two holes then the guy was right to chin you.

I'd also be chinning the past captain and explaining that you had lost a full two holes and people behind were complaining. Educate him.

How can you have an unofficial handicap off 28 and then set your target for the season at an unofficial 24, I don't understand this.

I agree with thecraw

I don't see it as my job to educate a past Captain.

He heard the "discussion" as it took place but as I said I am never a slow player and when at Augusta the 14 year old was penalised for slow play the others in the group wern't held responsible as I wasn't responsible today. How on earth do I make someone go quicker than he's prepared to go and as I said, the time for the round wasn't unreasonable by normal comps at our place?

My club is a new one so have no handicaps in place as it is new and growing to recording my scores and averaging them out to give an unoffical

Sorry Chris, but there's no point in saying "he's slow, but I'm going to let him be slow" and then get all huffy when groups behind complain about your pace of play.
You said you enjoyed a slow amble round... well, maybe others behind you didn't.

You know what drutz Bummer69 is not even worth the effort it takes to type. He is not a weekend warrior, but someone I would prefer to call a keyboard warrior. He spends all his time trying to wind people up and moaning about anyone who is not capable of playing consistently below 80. If he had his way then anyone who did not play anything other than weekends and is not pushing towards a cat 1 handicap would be banned from playing. Good idea but then you would have to kick around 75% of members out of every club. So when membership fees increases by 250% to make up for this, then I am sure he will be happy.
