After the first comp of the year I thought the handicap was going to come tumbling down, but it is still stuck on 9.5.

In 8 rounds at my home club, I have played under my handicap twice, over it once and hit the buffer 5 times. Recently I have had a few starts to rounds and managed to salvage something and stay in the buffer on the back 9, for example last weeks stableford I scored 13 on the front 9, 21 on the back. I actually had no pars and 4 birdies on the back nine.

Has anyone else struggled with this, I look back and my gross scores seem to be anything from 81-84 consistently, just want to move that to 70 something each time.

that sounds like a good start to the season to me. Under twice, over once and buffer the remaining times.

compared to my start of 8 comps - Missed buffer by 10 points or more on each :)

The OP is playing good golf and the signs are there a cracking round and big cut is not far away with that sort of consistency you may be in Lind for an annual review flag too! Keep plugging away if will come.

When you said struggling I thought you meant to get in the buffer. I've missed it by 1 twice and been well above every other comp this season....that's struggling!! Sounds like you are playing above expectation so I guess you will put a good round together soon. Just be patient and keep doing what you are doing.

I guess my expectation is based on my previous playing history. was off 7 6 years ago - but due to a break my first handicap was 10. I also have high expectations and expect to play to my handicap or better everytime I play. I know this is not possible, but if you dont aim for what your best is, you will never improve IMO.

you should worry I was off 7.8 then had a break started back off 10 and went north to currently 12.5 and cat3......

Yeah hateful out there in a midweek open shot 35points and get 0.1 back. Joke really so with my course I have no shots in first 5 holes!

So you can imagine what it's like\how you feel if your not at least level twos by then. Might as well walk back in after nine only torturing yourself to try get a score in s\fold.

Had 36 today was happy with that 7 over. Tho guys am out with 42 (with a 1 pointer on the last) and other guy 40. The 42 point man off 17 and other man off 13.

Just wasting my money entering really. May just wait till stroke comp and at least then it gives me a chance to get something.

I managed to play under my handicap today. Something stupid was in the cards as I was level gross on the front 9. 2 over after 15. Unfortunately the wheels came off and I finished treble double double. A nett 70 on a par 71. Should be a cut back to single figures but a disappointing end to a the round

Okay, you are not getting better (at least in terms of your handicap as the measure) but you aren't getting worse either and perhaps there are some areas of your game where a little improvement would reap rewards.

I have to think that because I'm still trying to adjust to some shiny new irons and feel my game is going backwards!

Maybe -2 then if treble gets rounded great round for 15 holes it's coming. Think ahead ?

Yah I was thinking about the net 63 and the big cut already.

Playing partner said said after need to keep it one shot at a time. I know the big cut is around the corner.

Did id some stats and hit 3 fairways, 4 greens and 25 putts

Your PP Is spot on. You can only play one shot at a time and no point thinking about other holes until you get to them

so since my OP I have played 12 rounds at my club this year, i have had 2 increases 6 buffers and 4 cuts Now back to my pre break handicap of 8 having been 10 a month ago. Still feel there is better to come

Last round was 39 points with a blob on the 1st and a double on a par 5 where I decided to play safe and hooked a 3 wood into the trees.

Typical higher single figure golf there. Ability to shoot level for 9 holes and drop 9 coming home or vice versa.

I know it all too well. Only a matter of time till a full round drops on your lap.
