I was just up at the pro shop discussing the Ping static webfit with our Pro.

Apparently PIng are saying that whereas black used to be standard, most people are being fitted as blue dot these days, so that would seem to be the new standard.

When I did my static fit it came out with me a green dot, 2.25 upright, and he couldn't believe it. He measured me, and sure enough, green it was. He measured himself (he plays Titleist CB's with reg lie), and according to Ping he should be green dot.

We also measure one of the juniors (about 6ft), and he came out at green dot.

Anyone else done the Ping static webfit and come out at somethng they totally thought they wouldn't?

Anyone done the webfit and ordered off the back of it and wished they hadn't?

Black Dot Standard Lie 5'2¾" to 6'1" 33" to 34¼"
Blue Dot 0.75° upright 5'4" to 6'2½" 33¾" to 35¼"

Not sure what the old ones where.

I kinda knew I was +1 up as per Titleist and a previous fitting and Ping's web fitting. I ordered my I15's off the webfitting.

Well I got fitted for i15's in January and my spec was green dot (2.25 upright from standard 6iron lie of 61.5 degrees) - similar to the web-fit I'd done
Couldn't use them. They felt so wrong and lost complete confidence in them. Sold them on and re-couped my money.
Went to Mizuno and got fitted for MP58's. They spec'd me at 1 degree flat (standard 6 iron 61 degrees).
Best clubs I've ever had - wonderful.

1/2 a degree difference in standard lie between Mizzy and Ping and I was spec'd 3.25 degrees different.......

Something wrong somewhere and I don't feel its Mizuno at fault.

My old cobra fp irons where standard and every iron was off the toe, now with the i15s in blue 90% of shots are from the middle. I guess your swing also plays a part something online fitting just can not do. Ping do advise you to seek pro help though.

I use Ping yellow dot G10 irons, best clubs i've ever used and i'd put a lot of that down to the fact that i was fitted correctly. If you use an authorised Ping custom fitting service you wont go far wrong.

Well Ping's webfit said I should be black dot but given my height and wrist to floor measurement I should be a red dot according to their colour chart. However to get a club with the same lie as my Mizuno MX-300's I would need to be a purple dot.

Remember that Club length and Lie do vary between the manufacturers so just because you are '1up' in one does not mean that you are the same for all. I am 1 flat in Mizuno but would be 2.5 flat in Titleist (and titleists are 0.25" longer too).

When I went to Titleist the fitter said that generally Mizunos were 1 degree flatter than most other clubs, although I have nothing to back it up.

Just done a bit of digging.
All these values are for a standard 6 iron

Cally X22Tour Loft 30 deg Lie 61.5 deg length 37.5inch
Ping i15 Loft 30 lie 61.5 length 37.25
Cleveland CG7 Tour loft 30.5 lie 61.5 length 37.25
Titleist AP2 Loft 31 lie 62.5 length 37.5
Mizuno MP58 loft 31 lie 61 length 37.25
TM R9TP Loft 31 lie 61 length 37.25

So just a few of the many sets around. It seems that Titleist are away from "standard" in the lie dept.

As so rightly pointed out earlier on this thread there is no industry standard when it comes to a "standard" golf club.

A black dot Ping iron could easily equate to a 2 degree flat Mizuno or a 1.5 degree upright MD Golf, or a 1 degree upright Wilson.

I wouldn't worry too much about what lie you are when comparing golf club manufacturers.

Every Manufacturer has their own "standard" club. The specs are listed on websites. Ping's is known as black dot, others as "standard" - this is what you buy off the shelf.
The lie angle you need is the lie angle you need regardless of manufacturer or club. If you need a 6 iron to have a lie angle of 61 degrees then you'll be standard in Mizuno and R9TP, 1/2 a degree upright in X22T and i15 but 1.5 degrees flat in Titleist because their "standard" differs so much from the others.

All the 6 irons listed above have a loft +/- 1 degree, a length +/- 1/2 inch and a lie +/- 0.5 degree except the AP2's. So there is a sort of standard and all I'm pointing out is that Titleist's lie angles seem to be a little out from the rest.
I doubt many would be able to tell the difference between 1 degree of loft and 1/2 degree of lie but 1.5 degrees will make a difference. That equates to 2 colour codes on Ping's chart.

Your' measurements for webfit dont tell anyone how you address the ball, or how you return the club to impact, so anyone who orders clubs based on that alone is sadly misguided.

Its about your stance & swing, and only tape on the bottom of the irons will show a fitter where the clubhead is at impact, and what's needed for you.

I was always 2* upright with Pings, but since I went to Titleist, I'm Standard.
NOT because the clubs are different, its because I've altered my stance to how it should have been years ago !
