Following on from the Ping 4 under standbag review in which I stated it was pants and as much use as a tea bag in the rain I thought I would post a review of it's replacement the Stewart W1 waterproof standbag.
I bought the silver colour with red contrasting zips and red lining, it looks the part. I was complemented on the bag first time out. It is a bit of a looker. If you are not bothered about the Stewart branding then from the outside there are no drawbacks to the look of the bag.
Performance wise, I was caught in a few sharp showers on first use and once I got the hood on it was waterproof as promised, none of the zips let in water, neither did the material, it was like the proverbial water off a ducks back. The bag is very comfortable in use, the hip pads are very well padded and super comfy, the straps are the same so carrying the bag is a joy. It is a little heavier than my old Ping but the performance is worth the few extra grams. It is very well endowed with pockets, there is room for everything and some spare. The legs terminate in a small "mud pad" so they do not sink into soft soil and they are nice and stable, they fold up slowly but go back into position neatly enough. The clubs go back into the bag easily, no jiggling about to get them in which is also nice in use.
For the on sale price of £79 I think I have got a bit of a bargain, I think someone thought it was a rebranded Sun Mountain H2NO, I got the chance to put mine side by side with a SM and although similar they are not identical so I doubt if it is the same bag. I can see no negatives to the bag and am delighted with it so far.
