If I could ask a slight variation of the original question......what if you are on the green and quite a distance away from the hole and for some reason or another you actually putt it off the other side of the green and have to play back from the fringe or worse.

If, from playing the first putt it takes another three shots to get it into the hole...........how many of them would be putts (3 or 4)????

If I hit every shot on the hole with my putter I would still only count those on the green
