If you're a starter to the game try lake balls.

I have no doubt that top notch balls would make ANY improvement to your game at the moment.
Lake balls are cheap and don't result in desperation when you lose them.

Check out Direct Golf, they do 'em in dozens for a tenner for decent quality such as Titleist.
Alternatively you could buy the "Hit me again" range. You can buy them in boxes up to 50 and they are mainly Top-Flite, Pinnacle etc.

Also seen some good deals at dare I say it, JJB too.

The Nike distance balls you are using the moment (in your signature) are also a good start. When you want to move on, try a Callaway Warbird.

I'd take my chances with cheap new balls over lake/recon.
I had a great season on Palmer (?) Bayhill ti....bought 3 dozen for £18. They were perfectly good for me. I would draw the line though at Donnay ti, the Z balatas in Tesco are much better i.m.o.

Id suggest anything cheap and nasty for the practice range to learn how to hit golf balls but use better quality balls on the course. I dont subscribe to the "you must use the same balls all the time" as your mind remembers how you play on the course from last time so distances etc wont be affected. Practice range is for practicing swinging and direction, not pinpoint accuracy otherwise they wouldnt be 200 yards wide.

Well my local driving range, I just use the ones there and your right thats just about the swing. However, as I haven't been playing long I'm not sure what feel is, hence asking the advice...playing with the right balls well hopefully will improve my understanding of feel.

Anything you can lay your hands on. Theres no such thing as a round golf ball so you might as well hit anything you can find. And those Loco balls for £8.04 in Sports Direct are MEGA. I used them in winter - oodles of distance and a decent touch on the greens.
