The S&T topic crops up fairly regularly with opinions on whether or not its the way to go usually hotly debated. I've often wondered of those that have switched to S&T what has been the effect on your handicap?

I read dozens of posts about how much more consistant the strike is using S&T, it's the surest way of getting the weight in the right place at the bottom of the swing, easier to swing in-square-in, etc, but surely that only stands up if the nett result is more consistant scoring and should therefore follow in a handicap cut?

So come on fella's, lets hear your tales of glory (or woe) after switching to S&T.

Re: Stack & Tilt.......those that do

I have not switched to s&t however due to having a weight transfer problem i have started to put more weight on my left side with quite good results. Is this s&t?

Re: Stack & Tilt.......those that do

I wouldn't have thought so necessarily (although I'm no expert on S&T or any other technique lol), I had a similar problem and my pro has got me keeping my weight more evenly spread, perhaps even loading the left (front) leg during the backswing, this helps me to get through the ball at impact.

Re: Stack & Tilt.......those that do

Have shot loads of decent scores this year under my h/cap but it hasn't affected my h/cap (yet) as I only played 3 comps this year and had 2x 0.1's and a buffer.

I'm trying to persuade myself to go to the practice ground next year....... ooooh, is that the kettle boiling? Must dash.....

Re: Stack & Tilt.......those that do

spent a year and a half learning the traditional swing.
£500 quid on golf lessons and I couldn't regularly break a hundred.
Switched to S&T and after a year with far less practice and no lessons, dropped from 24 (which I wasn't playing to, but the maximum the club would allow) to 19.
S&T 4EVERR!!!! The traditional swing is rubbish LOL!1!1!! (I think this is known in the trade as 'trolling')

Re: Stack & Tilt.......those that do

Started the year on 9.4, finished on 9.5, so it hasn't really made any difference. I'm happier, but then what does that matter.

How many on here have had lessons (of what ever swing) and gone up?

What keeps my h/cap where it is is my chipping and putting. There is no substitute for a solid short game.

Re: Stack & Tilt.......those that do

I did have a good run of form after playing with James in the summer and embracing some of the concepts and I believe there may be something in S&T. Not sure how much of a leap of faith it would be to go the whole hog though. I might have a look over the winter at the main concept especially regarding the weight issue and have a think. If you are on the fence though speak to James as he can explain the concept in simple form.

If you go to stack and tilt Homer, presumably you would have to find a new pro to teach you ? Feel sorry for your existing one, being made redundant just before Xmas :D

Not sure I'm going that far done the S&T route. Just tempted to look at what James told me earlier in the year and have a couple of range sessions to see if I can get any sort of feel for it. It isn't like I'm going to get much proper golf in at the moment so at least it'll keep the range work interesting.

Maybe he should learn to teach all swings so that he can give the customer what they ask for? Makes good business sense to me. There's a huge demand from people wanting S&T lessons, I'm surprised Bobmac hasn't cornered the market for his region. Even I would be interested in having someone look at my swing if they knew what they were talking about.

Is there?????????

You do know that not everyone is the same height, build, flexibility, age.....etc
Some people have injuries that need to be taken into consideration such as bad backs, bad wrists...etc

Find a PGA Pro to teach you to play to the best of your ability, they will determine what the best course of action is regarding technique. In my years of teaching i've never had anyone ask me to teach them S&T but i have had someone ask me to help them change some of the S&T method that they had been learning and they improved dramatically. It is important to remember that no single method is applicable to everyone, you need to find what elements will work with your swing and body type and what doesn't.
I'm not saying S&T isn't a good way for some people to go but i do believe it is not for everyone in as much as no system is for everyone.

Out of interest, what IS the body type that can't use stack and tilt?

If I could have shot low in the 3 comps I played then I'd have been cut... I was trying... honest :p

It was just one of those years when I was either playing somewhere else or the missus was working or I had other commitments to attend. Hoping to play in a dozen or more next year.

So you back a method that actually does not work well for you???

Have you been reading Dilbert again on how to win arguments by misquoting people???? :)

What body type can't hit a golf ball with the hands on the club the other way round, left below right for a right hander?? I forgot his name but there's a guy that played for the Lothians who played that way and plays great golf.

I'm sure there are a lot of different ways a golfer can play golf but it's important to find the BEST way for each person to play golf.
