Should you play a stableford aggressively knowing you have 2 shots on each hole or play it safe & just go for the 2pts for a par & hope you have a few extra good holes.
Yep... go for it. I played it today and shot 35 points. Always a bit more aggresive than a medal round as the penalty for a real howler is only a blob rather than a 10 on the card
I try and play every round the same and get it round is as few shots as possible. When I had my PB the other week I wasn't focussed on the score at all and certainly not on the points total. It was one of the times when the head was empty of anything other than making sure I made a good swing (without the usualy 000's of swing thoughts) and I got my rewards. I don't stand there going "if I make par with my shot for 3 points it makes up for the one pointer I had earlier". As soon as I think ahead or on how I'm doing its a recipe for disaster
Can't say I set my game out any differently. Always try to make my worst hole a bogey and if I get a birdie or two then great. Pars are good and the more of those I can make on shot holes then the better I score. If I do have a bad hole I can really go for the "putt (or chip) for a point" without worrying about the one back but that's about the only difference from a normal medal round.
cheers fellas, I 'll let my daughter know to carry on ripping it , its her first stableford against the ladies & she could win a cup , told her to just enjoy playing but she can be a tad competitive & wanted to know which way to play.
