I don't want to be too miserable about this but is there anything more pointless than Saints days? Any of them?
Few years back I was sat in the pub with two of my mates (one Scottish and one Irish) and we were chatting about how we named our kids.
I said "My son was born on St George's Day. So we named him George."
My Scottish mate said "That's a wee coincidence. My son was born on St Andrew's Day. So we named him Andrew."
And my Irish mate said "Bejeesus and begorrah, that's amazing! Exactly the same thing happened with me and my son Pancake."

Especially when it is frowned upon to celebrate your national saints day. How many news stories will there be today about councils not allowed to fly St Georges flags
It just seems madness to me that there is a problem with those wanting to celebrate doing so and those not wishing to carrying on as normal. Every year there is the same call for it to be a national holiday. Can't see that happeningMore than the number of councils who ACTUALLY aren't allowed to fly St George's flags.

What council isn’t allowed to fly the St George’s cross ?

They should rename that 'Drunks Day'. It's a drinks fest, nothing more.St Patrick’s Day is the one that seems to be massive around the world as well - but excuse for a party![]()

The Irish can crack on with it, fill their boots. We should stop even pretending they mean anything over here.

And what about the easily upset Facebook contingent. What will they moan about todayBut the serial offended daily mail readers .. what would they be offended over if they can't complain we should celebrate it and show national pride
Oh that's right it would be something else .. like the wrong coloured egg shells

No, I think it's more that the outrage around not being able to fly flags or celebrate Christmas etc etc is just made up by right wing nutjobs, and in reality it's not a thing.Isn't this beginning to cross into a political area which is what I was tip toeing around

Definitely a thing. I blame the union with Scotland when St Georges day first began to wane in popularityNo, I think it's more that the outrage around not being able to fly flags or celebrate Christmas etc etc is just made up by right wing nutjobs, and in reality it's not a thing.
